ICS students laud Catholic schools in essays
During Catholic Schools Week
at Immaculate Conception School,
students in grades third through
eighth wrote essays centered on the
theme "Catholic Schools: Making a
World of Difference." The
following are excerpts from their
essays:
Karla Barrera, 3rd, "All I want
right now is nonviolence in this
beautiful world I love."
Brianda Lopez, 3rd grade, "I
really appreciate being in this
school because the staff is so kind."
Alfredo Garcia, 3rd, "I like
I.C.S. because we pray every
morning and we go to mass every
Friday and we talk about God."
Juan F. Hinojosa, 3rd, "When I
entered this school I didn't know
how to talk English. That first yeai
I learned how to talk in English." "I
want to thank Fr. Amador for
telling us to go to mass on
Fridays."
Robey Garza, 3 "We should
learn the Ten Commandments and
respect everyone and respect the
church."
Kalie Barrera, 3rd, "We pray
morning, lunch and end of school,
and the more you pray the closer
you get to God."
Alondra Moreno, 3rd, "I think
we can make a difference by being
good and studying in school."
Consuelo Martinez, 3rd, "It is
good to pray and respect others as
you respect yourself. Like Fr.
Amador says, the most important
thing in the world is you and your
family and God is the most
important."
Mariano Alvarez, 4th. "And I
also want to thank Fr. Amador
because he's very funny and he
teaches us something new every
day like the Ten Commandments."
Clarissa Islas, 4th, "Families
help us do our homework when we
don't understand. They come to the
P.T.O. meeting to see what kind of
things we are learning or doing at
school. They also participate like
selling tickets to raise money for
the school." _
Dannais Salinas, 4th, "Thanks
to all the teachers that have helped
me learn what I am supposed to
learn throughout the school years ."
Alejandra Lopez, 4th. "You can
learn a lot of English. You also can
learn the Law Of Love. We share a
lot of things."
Edio Estrada, 4th, "Sr. Rose
was very strict but she was a good
teacher She taught me how to do
math and write."
Vanessa Tellez Aleman. 4th, "I
am ready to make my communion.
I learn the Eucharist."
{Cathy Salazar, 5th. "They have

made a difference in my life by
teaching me how to pray and help
others. They taught me how to talk
to God "
Julieta Hinojosa, 5th,
"Something else is I've learned to
be friends with everyone."
Estefania Alanis, 5th, "They
even teach the three year olds how
to respect and be educated."
Nadia Garcia, 5th, "When I
came to this school, I "as really
scared, but the teachers were really
patient with me because I didn't
know any English, only Spanish.
Now I am here writing everything
in English. When I also came here I
didn't have any friends. Now I
have a bunch of friends."
Mark Lopez, 5th, "The classes
in the 5th grade are fun. Right now
in math I am learning about
different types of graphs. Some
examples are pie charts,
pictographs, line graphs, and bar
graphs. Math is my favorite
subject. Probably because my mom
used to be a math teacher."
Noe Santos, 5th, "Also, we
have helped other people like Mrs.
Montejano's sister and people who
did not have food. We are supposed
to be thankful because our parents
work hard so we can come to this
school and our teachers for
teaching us lots of things."
Heriberto Rene Montalvo, 5th,
"This year was my first year in
sports, and I've learned a lot of
stuff, like sportsmanship and how
to win and lose. Catholic schools
teach kindness, education and how
to have a good heart. Most of the
students at I.C.S. don't know how
lucky they are to go to a Catholic
school. 1 hope every student at
I.C.S. looks back at their life one
day and realizes they were so lucky
they went to a great Catholic
School like I.C.S."
Raymundo Lopez, 5th. "The
Catholic Schools teach about Jesus
our savior and what he did for us...
You get closer to God when you
get the body and blood of Jesus the
Lord."
Emiliano Miranda, 5th, "The
church teaches us to pray and listen
to the word of God. Our pastor
Father Amador Garza teaches us to
love one another. The school I.C.S.
has fun activities like sports. The
sports that I C S has are soccer,
basketball, and volleyball. The
coaches of these sports are good
coaches. Another thing that I C S.
has is friendship. Friendship is a
very important thing in life. We
would not live without friends. We
could be friends with anybody,
even teachers."
Betsy Flores. 5th, "I think that
the school is good because the
classrooms have televisions and
computers."
Janine Aldaba. 6th, "I am very

we went to Camp Kappe, where we
went canoeing, gardening, fishing,
seeing the animals, and went
through a maze... The event I like is
the Jamaica because we have a
haunted house and there is a lot of
fun and games."
Veronica Regalado, 6lh, "This
year I was in volleyball. It was a
great opportunity for me. I still
enjoyed it because what matters is
you went out there, tried your best,
and had fun."
Rolando Robles, 6th, "I will try
to make the Earth better, by helping
the poor and hungry and cleaning
the trash that they throw in the
lakes, rivers, oceans, and swamps."
Mayra Gonzalez, "I like I C S.
because they help me to be a good
child of God. 1 have a lot of friends,
and they help me too "
Alejandro Flores, 7th, "You
should also help others when they
are in need. That is why God gave
us our hands, to help. All the things
God gave us we have to use them
in a good way."
Gilberto Gonzalez, 7th, "This
education has shown me the way to
live my life by caring for others to
make the world a difference."
Myrna Ivette Garcia. 7th,
"Another way is by opening your
hearts to people that arc mean or

I am today ."
Indira Gonzalez. 7th, "1 learned

others feel happy, not to use drugs
etc..."
Michael Aldaba. 7th, "Our
teachers treat us like an individual

understand the topic before moving
on to another one "
Arnaldo Martinez. 7th, "1 think
that there should be more Catholic
schools in the world because
people have to know and learn
about Jesus' life."
Maria Montalvo. 7,h. "Catholic
Education is very important to our
community because it is the word
of God being brought into the
classroom. Through Catholic
Education many people who lived
lives of sin are able to see the light

Christians Catholic Education has
also taught me maturity and values.
Values such as honesty, integrity,
humility, and a mutual respect for
myself, others and God "

First Anniversary Mass
A mass will be celebrated on Sunday
May 25th at 8:30 AM at
Sacred Heart Church (Los Garcias) in Rio Grande City, Texas
In loving memory of Abel N. Gonzalez Sr.
He will wipe every tear from their eyes and there shall he no wore
death or mourning, wailing or pain, for the former things are passed
away. Revelation 21:4
A year has come and gone since your passing and not a day goes by that
we don 'I think of you with so much love. We miss you more than words
could ever say. Birthdays, anniversaries, holidays have been celebrated
this past year with a joy mingled with sadness. You are always with us, in our thoughts and in our
hearts as we remember what you would say or do in certain circumstances of life. You taught us by
example how to be faithful, self-giving, and true. For those and many valuable lessons of life we
will always treasure your memory and your love.
Your final words, "Let's go home, " have been indelibly written in our hearts Upon re/lection as
time goes by, those words have acquired a special meaning. They have given us a strong resolve to
live our lives in Christ, in joyful expectation of our eventual family reunion in our heavenly home

everyone is lucky enough to be able
to go to a private Catholic School.
For those who are, I think that they
should study hard and go on the
right path, so iliat they can lead
others and we can all have a great
world without violence and drugs."
Norma Alejandra Esquivel, 8th,
"Like the three musketeers say,
'one for all and all for one', that
means to me the union, and all in
union it's more easy."
Anairis Hinojosa, 8th, "My
parents could have had me in a
small school in Mexico, but they
bring me and my three brothers
every day to Roma and take the
school bus. If they make a big
cffoii tc bring us here, it means that
it is worth it."
Diana Villanueva, 8th, "There
may not be a lot of people in
Catholic Schools but it's the quality
not the quantity."
