AMONG DEALERS AND
ON GASOLINE ROW
DEALERS ARK PLEASED WITH SPRINT.
OUTLOOK. EL PtSO TO HANDLE
MORE CAMS THAN EVER.
"if tba present Indications do not mislead
inc." said I. W. Stock ra miniger of tbe
International Auto Co. yesterday "ine
coming of spring1 sales will excel! any
corresponding season f tbo past and will
lx" the r aiest ever handled ny dealers of
the Southwest. Tbe past few days of splen-
ltd sunshine his brourbt out prospects
itfver befare linar J of and who ire anxious
to purchase cars. .
. "linllke former occasions they are asking
to see standard i-ars or tne turner price
looking it the best cam the market affords
This I take as a posltl.e tign mat there
is money to be spent tn the trade and that
plenty or sales in mese lines win ce nnue
b Kl Palo dealers within a few weeks.
The automobile trade unlike other lines of
business requires the ready casb ID most
cases. An automobile after betas driven
for a few months with proper care Is ts
good as It ever was. but buyers do not
want a used car. and tne valuation de
creases. In the real estate market a lot
advances In value the owner at the end or
a certain period has m value more that be
put Into the Investment and his credit at
tbe bank Is naturally better and always
"If the general public would remember
mat tneir car is giving tne same saugiac-
t Km at the end or a yerr. as it aia tne aay
they purchased It there would be a great
difference In the trade as It Is It requires
cash from most dealers and the fact that
there ire dozens of inquiries for high
priced cars leads me to believe that money
with at least those who are looking at cars
must be a great deal easier.
"Tbe cmlng cattlemen's convention will
be a source of grrett benefit to automo-
bile asen of El Paso our firm sole five
cars In a single day during "te last con-
vention 'if cowmen who met hi Hit- city.
These men ire able to buy. they need the
kind of automobile whlcb Is being shown
here and are coming to understand that
the automobile does what they want It to
and with greater speed and less expense
than the old way."
The International Auto Co.. last week
received a large shipment of Rtilck cirs
and one car load of Abbott-rtetrolts. These
machines were ordered especially for show
during the convention when hundreds or
visitors who own thousands of acres of land
and steers by tha car :oad will be In this
city.
List week for the first time tn many
months tbe Trl-State Motor Co. Tilled to
deliver a Ford car. They however had a
good reason for the sudden slit' p In de-
liveries; there wis no '"ord cars to be had
none to be shipped therefore none to be
delivered. The sales force were com-
pelled to content themselves with liking
orders ind Blgnlng receipts for deposits on
cars. This system worked so wen that the
next two car loads have been sold In ad-
vance or tbelr arrival.
Manager 1. Klrkpatrlck said yesterday that
he expvets to airaln mike deliveries the
latter part of the week or by March I. "We
lost a rew sales." said Mr. Klrkpatrlck. "by
allowing too many cars to go out of the
territory we had plenty on hand but Ky
accommodating out-of-town dealers who
could get no cars this shortage resulted
it win he over however as soon as ship
ments commence to arrive. There are
plenty of these cars ano ki raso win get
Its abare."
H. L. Kerr of Demlng. N. M . was a visitor
to gas row last week and purchased
through the Oakland Sties Co.. a Franklin
"six." Tbe car was driven borne by Mr.
Kerr.

OUTLOOK BRIGHT
IN AUTO TRADE
(BY k P. DRYSDAI.E.)
That the future holds a nuxt enrnu rar
ing outlook for the motor ear Industry an
analysis of tbe actual conditions fully Jus-
Tho motor car business Is rapidly set-
tling down to a rational substantial en-
during bssls. And that Includes not only
tbtt motor car industry but tho motor car
buyer. That there would eventually be a
illuming out in ihe ranks of Ihe manu-rarnn-ers
was inevitable rrom th rirst
it in tho history of the evolution or every
business. It was Inevitable that in the
automobile business Ihe promoter the ex-
ploiter and the speculator should flourish
their little hour snd vanish like the June
bug. It. was Inevitable thit tbe 111 equipped
the III nlvlsed and the unfit be eliminated.
The motor car manufacturers who bare
survived this ruthless and inexorable
process or elimination are the uniril. They
are the kind of manufacturers who rurtn
the base or every industry when that in-
dustry has been shirted and settled to
Its elements. They are the manufaclurers
with real business conscience and Ideals
and a real product. By the honesty of
iiietr product ami meinous anil by tne
character they have built for theniselv.
In Ihe public Judgment they have demon
su .in-d tlieinselves as strong and worthy to
survive. There Is no luck or sentiment In
that at all. It Is the Immutable srientiric
law or e vot .i i in.
The buyer or the motor car has pro-
gressed tn precisely tho same ratio. Par-
haps we have put the cart before tho horse.
As a mailer of fact the Increasing puwer
of the motor car buyer to discriminate i
l i the good car and the bad the honest
product and the other kind the manu-
racturer of character and Ideals and Ins
manufacturer of neither the investment
that Is an asset and the investment thai
a liability has proved the most potent
factor. In bringing the motor car Industry
tn Us current stage of evolution.
This year todaythe automobile Is not
considered as a luxurious toy. Even those
who continue to buy the automobile is a
luxurious toy are buying with more dis-
cernment more rare and more Intelli-
gence. They aro buying tho best vslue
not necessarily the most expensive car.
In fact the automobile has not tuurh
moro than begun to realise Its poslilll-
tfes. te-cause those possibilities are not
only pleasure giving bill economic. Tim
present and ruturo of the automobile la
utilization. More and more American
eWsens htjarness iiiciit pv ufe sslrimt IIWli; "
nrmers and salesmen are buying and op-
erating automobiles as a wans toward
business economy business erflrtency and '
Baamsss expansion. Tno market ror tho
well made reliable car In the farming
districts or this country and Canada Is al-
most limitless. And It mast be eonstsnlty
borne in mind thsl tbe man who om-ei

again dispense with automobile service.
He tunes up his whole business and social

Wen yearand the year after the world
will buy and operate automobiles in ever
increasing numbers. Hut tney will be
bought with ever Increasing dlnerlmlna-
tlon and business Judgment.
So Ihe fnlure presents a most enrottrag-
Inr outlook for Ihe motor car Industry
simply because the American people have
al last analysed It. separated tho w best
rrom tho chafr and arrived st tbe logical
conclusion and lndlsputahln truth as the
Americans have a knark of doing In tpa
long run. The lutomoblles which give a
value commensurate with their cost win
be sold In larger nurriher and the medi-
ocre and poor value automobiles in small
numbers.
