the crew or the British steamer Oxonian
brought Into port today a story that the
Oxonian sunk by gunrire an Austrian aub-
martne which attacked her tn the Medit-
erranean December 98.' They said some of
the men on tho submarine were saved by
a Prench patrol 'boat but that several were
believed lost.
British naval gunners aboard the Oxonian

after a torpedo launched at the stoamer

stern. According to the story the second
shot rrom the Oxonian's 4.7-Inch gun
