Funeral Held
At Clairemont
Nonnie Solomon Rodgers,
70, of Clairemont, died
about 9:30 a.m. Thursday at
his home after an apparent
heart attack.
Funeral was held at 10:00
a.m. Saturday at the Claire-
mont Baptist Church. Bur-
ial was iit Clairemont
Cemetery under the direc-
tion of Littlepage Funeral
Home.
Born Sept. 13, 1897, in
Kent County, he was a life-
long resident of the county.
He was a ranch employe
and married lone McFall in
July 1920 a* Quitaque, Tex.
He was a member of the
First Baptist Church of
Clairemont.
Survivors include his
wife; two daughters, Mrs.
N. A. PittcMck of Asper-
mont and Mrs. M. D. Pitt-
cock of Jay ton ;one son,
Nonnie Rex Rodgers of
Pampa; one sister, Mrs. Jes-
sie Chaffin of Odessa; two
brothers, George Rodgers of
Snyder and Rome Rodgers
of Girard; seven grand-
chiMren and two great-
grandchildren
One son, Billy Ray Rod-
gers, died Jan. 23 1955.
Recives Cash
Award for Work
Mrs. Arvel. Wilson, Jr.,
the former Ruth Ann Ay-
cock, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Or v] lie Aycock of
Route 1 Aspermont, re-
ceived a ca;,h award of $160
on February 14 ,1968, for
her superior performance
during 1967 in the Abilene
social security office.
The award was presented
by R. R. Tuley, Jr., district
manager, who cited her ac-
curacy record in data and
administrative messages as
99.2 percent correct as com-
pared with 97 percent ac-
curacy average nationwide.
He also noted that high
quality performance was
not exactly a new trait of
Ruth's as she was valedic-
torian as a I960 graduate of
Aspermont High School.

Now Pastor of
First Baptist
The Rev. Darol Baldwin
has accepted the call of The
First Bapti.it Church in As-
permont to become its pas-
tor.
Rev. and Mrs. Baldwin
and family will move into
the parsonage on March 5.
He will preach his first ser-
mon as pastor on March 10.
Baldwni has served as
pastor of the Immanuel
Baptist Church in Brown-
field since April of 1965.
Before that he was pastor
of First Baptist Church in
Connerville, Oklahoma for
two and one-half years and
pastor of the Epting Mem-
orial Baptist Church in
Denison Texas for one and
a half years.
He was born in Delwin,
Texas and graduated from
High School at Wellman,
Texas. He is a graduate of
West Texas State at Canyon
and of the Southwestern
Baptist Seminary in Fort
Worth.
His wife, Anita is also
a graduate of West Tex-
as State. They have two
children, Toye Diane, age
three and one-half and a
son David Byron a few
weeks old.
Rev. Baldwin was the As-
sociational Sunday School
Supt. of the South Plains
Association. He was select-
ed for "Who's Who in Texas
Today" this year.
Banquet for Youth
Held at 1st Baptist
The Youth Committee of
the First Baptist Church
honored their Young Peo-
ple and Intermediates with
a Sweetheart Banquet on
February 17 in the Fel-
lowship Hall. Guest speak-
er for the banquet was the

tor of the First Baptist
Church of Rule. Entertain-
ment was by a girls trio
from Hardin-Simomns Uni-
versity in Abilene.

Mitchell Kidd, son of Mr.
and Mrs. John Kidd of Pea-
cock, will be in the calf
scramble during the 1968
Houston Livestock Show
and Rodeo. Mitchell is a
member of the Aspermont
FFA and will compete with
384 boys for 192 calves.
Godfrey Night
Set at ACC
Abilene Christian Col-
lege will honor an Asper-
mont graduate and an
outstanding basket-
ball player John Ray
Godfrey on T u e s-
day night., February 27,
with "Godfrey Night."
This was announced by
athletic director A. B.
Morris.
It has been officially
proclaimed "John Ray
Godfrey Night" for ACC's
first contest in the new
Moody Coliseum.. The
Wildcats play Arkansas
State University in a 7:30
p.m. encounter.
Godfrey, one of ACC's
all-time great cagers, will
be given a special presen-
tation by the college.
Fans from Aspermont
will be seated in a special
section for the game.
Tickets may be pur-
chased at the Aspermont
Star, Kenady Drug, and
McNutt Conoco. Price of
admission is $1.00. No re-
funds will be made on
advance tickets.

morning, February 26.
Aspermont to Play Plains at Snyder
Monday Night for Bi-I)istrict
Smiths to Open
Drive-In Theater
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Smith,
from Waurika, Oklahoma
have leased the drive in
theater from Mrs. Pete
Blackshear and will have a
grand opening on March 1.
The Smiths have managed
theaters for 20 years. Mr.
Smith plans to remodel the
walk-in theater downtown
for operation next winter.
The Aspermont Hornets
will play the Plains Cow-
boys Monday night Febru-
ary 26 for Bi-District.
The game will be played
in the ne'.v Snyder Coli-
seum at "'.00 p.m. No ad-
vance tickets will be sold as
the coliseum will hold sev-
eral thousand people.
Plains won the district
5-A championship last Fri-
day night beating Tahoka.
Aspermont has played
two practice games since
finishing their regular sea-
son of play.
Last Thursday night they
played at Paducah. outscor-
ing them 59-58. Nathan Ray

held on April 2 this year.
Offices to be up for elec-
tion will be mayor and two
aldermen. These places are
now held by Jim Ward,
mayor and Bill Martin and
Tom Hill, aldermen. Others

Dean McAnally.
Anyone interested in fil-
ing for the offices must do
so by March 4.

Named Hospital

Frank Hays Jr., was
named administrator of the
Stonewall Memorial Hospi-
tal Monday night. Hays
will begin work there on
March 1. He has been in the
insurance business in As-
permont.

judged on Friday night.
Qunrterhorses, beef heifers,
and beef steers will be
judged on Saturday morn-
ing. A barbecue lunch will
be served Saturday at noon.
Following lunch, the top
50 percent of the market
animals will be sold at auc-
tion.
