Management of Star Changed,
Foil Going to Ralls as Publisher
A change in the manage-
ment of the Aspermont Star
has been announced by Rog-
er Foil, publisher and edi-
tor. Beginning with the next
issu" of the Star, the new
publisher will be Bob Craig
of Hamlin, and Mrs. Foil
will assume the duties of
temporary editor until a re-
pl 'rnment can be secured.
In making the change,
Mr. Foil and his family will
be moving to Ralls where
bo will become publisher
and editor of The Ralls Ban-
ner.
Mr. Craig. editor and pub-
lic nf thc Hamlin Her-
ald. will become publisher
^ ' of both newspapers. The
Star office will remain in
its nrrsent location and will
continue to serve the As-
School Begins
Monday, Aug. 26
School will begin Mon-
dnv morning August 26,
8:25 a.m. with a full sche-
dule of school work. Meals
will be served at the lunch-
room.
The faculty is incomplete,
with two teaching vacan-
cies. Terryy Priest, high
school math teacher and
basketball coach reports
Monday for his Army phy-
sica1 ,and they need a high
school English teacher to re-
place Mrs. Martha Harrell,
who died early Wednesday
morning.
According t0 Supterinten-
dent of schools they can be-
gin with all classes by shift-
ing some teachers until
they can fill these vacancies.
The Elementary School
buildings are completely air
conditioned now, with air
conditioners being put in
this summer.
County' Gains
New Oil Well
Stonewall County has
gained a new oil well in the
area two miles west of As-
permont.
The oiler is Mallard Pe-
troleum Inc. of Midland No.
3 Baldwin, Section 168,
Block D, H&TC Survey.
No. 3 Baldwin had a daily
potential of 22 barrels of
41.5 gravity oil, plus two
barrels of water. It is
pumping from an open hole
at 5,590 to 5,609 feet.
Operator set the 4%-inch
casing at 5,590 feet, and the
hole is bottomed at 5,609
feet.

Mr. Foil has been pub-
lisher and editor of the As-
permont Star since July 1,
1961, except for a brief
period in 1967 when he was
employed by Taylor Pub-
lishing Company in Dallas.
The Foils' have been ac-
tive in community and
church affairs. Mr. Foil,
who is a member of the
Lunrheon Club has held the
offices of Vice-President
and Secretary-Treasurer. He
h 's also served as President
of the Band Parents Club.
He is a member of the Vol-
unteer Fire Department and
the Booster Club. He serv-
ed this year as assistant
Sunday School Superinten-
dent at the First Baptist
Church, where the Foils are
members. Mr. and Mrs. Foil
are both members of the
youth committee of the
church.
Mrs. Foil, a member of
1'to Phoenix Club served as
p^e^ident in 1965-66. and
slm also has held the offices
of vice president, recording
secretary and was to serve
this year as corresponding
secretary. She is the assis-
tant superintendent in the
Nursery Department at the
Rantist Church. She served
as treasurer of the Band
Parents Club and has been
n room mother for the past
fow years, and accompanied
the seniors on their trip this
year.

Hmh School is planning to
enter West Texas State Uni-
versitv in the faH semester.
She served as editor of the
1968 annual, and served 4
vears as maiorette for the
Hornot Band. She was also
chosen bv the school faculty
as the girl Most Likely to
Succeed in the class of 1968.
Their 15-year-old son,
Randal, a sophomore play-
ed on the football and bas-
ketball Junior Varsity team
last year. He has been a
member of the band for 4
vears and also participated
in Interseholastic League
Number Sense in the 8th
grade and his Freshman
year. This past year he ser-
ved on the FFA Grass Judg-
ing Team, and also went to
District in Public Speaking
in 1966.
Mr. Foil becomes publish-
er of the Ralls Banner Sept.
1. The family plans to move
the middle of September.
Rites Pending
For Mrs. Harrell
Mrs. Martha Frances Har-
re'l, 42, English teacher at
Aspermont High School,
died Wednesday morning in
M. D. Anderson Hospital in
Houston. Funeral arrange-
ments will be announced by
Littlepage Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harrell was born in
Winters, July 19, 1926. She
had lived in Stonewall
County for 32 years.
She had taught at Throck-
morton. Jayton, Hamlin, Ro-
t- n and Aspermont.
Mrs. Harrell was a 1943
graduate of JAspermont
High Sr-hool and also of
Mar"- Hardin-Bavlor Col-
lin ot Belton. She was a
momber of Delta Kappa
Gr>mma Teachers Society
and was to have been See-
on 1 Vice - President next
vear. a member of the Phoe-
n'x Cub and the Book
Club.
Survivors include one son.
Robin- her parents Mr. and
Mrs. Luther Reese, all of
Asnermont and a brother
Fax Reese of San Antonio.
Homecoming
For Ex-Students
October Fifth
Homecoming for all ex-
studerits of Aspermont High
School will be held on Sat-
urday, October 5th.
Plans are being made for
the different events of the
day and will be climaxed
with a football game be-
tween Aspermont and Rule.
Efforts will be made to
contact all ex-students and
officers of the Ex-Student
Association are urging
everyone that knows the
address of an ex to please
contact that person.
Plans will be announced
at a later date.

REUNION HELD
AT HASKELL
Mr. and Mrs. John Mc-
Nutt,, Mr. B. O. Hawkins,
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Norris,
Mr. and Mrs Harry Fletcher
all of this area attended the
Fletcher - Reed reunion in
Haskell Sunday.
Mr and Mrs. Ronnie Mc-
NuH and daughter, Tammy,
from Farewell, Texas also
attended.
Rate Increase Turned Down, Suit
May be Filed by Phone Company
Aspermont City Council
turned the General Tele-
phone Company down on a
rate increase for the third
time.
General Telephone want-
ed to increase the residen-
tial rates 85 cents a month
and the business rales to
$10.00 a month.
A letter was received by
the city council on Monday
informing the council that
the telephone company
would file a lawsuit against
the city to get the increase.
Funeral Held
Sunday for
Mrs. Smith
Mrs. Frona Smith, 62, of
Asnermont died at 3:20 a.m.
Saturday in the Callan Hos-
pital in Rotan.
Funeral was held at 2:30
p.m. Sunday in the Central
Baptist Church here, with
t.ho R^v. James Wood, pas-
tor, officiating. Burial was
i-i Double Mountain Ceme-
terv under direction of
Littlepage Funeral Home.
Born Sept. 25, 1905, in
Bosque County, she was
married Nov. 3, 1922, to
Neal Smith at Peacock. She
had lived in Stonewall
County about 60 years.
Survivors include her
husband, of Aspermont; one
daughter, Mrs. Ned Gallo-
wav of Mansfield: three
sons. Hershel W. Smith of
Downey, Ca^f., Leon H.
Smith of AsDermont and J.
C. Smith of Mansfield; eight
grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bill
Mar+in, Oscar Galloway,
Mark Luttrall. Pete Coch-
ran, W. I. Shadle and A. B.
Ellison.

The phone company has

Aspermont and believe this
is not enough of a return..
The City Council stated
that in refusing the increase
they feel like they are
working for the best inter-
est of the residents of As-
permont.
Funeral to be
Held Friday
For Obie Wright
Obie P. Wright, 68, Stone-
wall County resident since
1949, died at 11:15 a.m.
Wednesday in Callan Hos-
pital in Rotan.
Funeral will be held at
10:00 a.m. Friday in the
First Baptist Church of As-
permont with the Rev.
Clyde Cook of Abilene and
the Rev. Darold Baldwin,
pastor, officiating. Burial
will be in the Rule Ceme-
tery under the direction of
Littlepage Funeral Home.
Born May 22, 1900 in
Comanche County, he mar-
ried I.uciUe Boyd in Rule in
1920. He was a farmer and
rancher, member of the
Stonewall County Democra-
tic Executive Committee,
tl_,e American Legion and a
veteran of World War I,
serving in France.
Survivors include his
wife. Lucille, of Aspermont;
his mother. Mrs. John
Wri""M of Rochester; one
son. Dean Wright of Man-
chester. N. H.: three daugh-
ters Mrs. Leonard Branch
of Aspermont, Mrs. R. C.
Collett of Woodland. Cali-
fornia and Mrs. Carl Hitt of
Rochester: six brothers, Al-
ton of S^ton. Coleman of
Rochester, Earnest of Little-
field. Johnnie of Fort
Worth. Flgir. of Rule and
Farl o'f Lubbock: two sis-
tors. Mrs. Leonard Gran-
tham of Lubbock and Mrs.
Wallace Smtih of Spur and
seven grandchildren.
