B. Miller was in town Tuesday
from his farm, .'1 miles north-west
of Bastrop. He says the roads
were frozen hard, and ho had
never seen them in a worse con-
dition. One of his horses slipped
down cutting his nose and an-
other cut his leg.
—Weather permitting, ten or
more Noble Shriners of Bastrop
will leave here Monday for Tem-
ple to attend a special meeting of
Ben llur Temple of Shriners,
called in that city for Monday
night. Preparations have been
made to give all who attend a
hot time, while the Novices will
be given all they want.
—W. N. Strother had on ex-
hibition Wednesday, an ear of
corn grown near Jeddo, a sample
taken from ten bushels he bought
from a .Jeddo farmer f"r seed

Haynic went up to Elgin Saturday even-
ing to attend a convocation of the Elgin
Chapter Royal Arch Masons, but owing
to the severe weather the meeting \sas

makes the type read, "the manufactur-

ed interest," when it should be, "una-
bated" interest. Nortwithstanding the
unfavorable weather these popular sales
are "hot cakes" and everybody happy.
On the 12th of February, 1*99, four
years ago, the Colorado river was frozen
over at Bastrcp. < in t^je |lith (,f Feb.,
last M (hday, wo had the first genuim
winter this season, the snow and sleet
remaining on the ground, in places, for
several days. Wednesday night the rain
full in torrents, continuing drizzly all
day Thursday.

been done, had to be done in the
dry est places, and now wo do not

One night last week, Hen (j.
Hill got up tu put down a window
and close the blinds. His har\d
slipped and went through the
glass, cutting a very severe
W' und in his arm from which he
bled profusely.
Ho made his way across the
hall to his mother's room, leaving
a trail of blood as he went; before
he could make his troubles r. t.own
lie fainted from lops of .,jood. In
falling he struck his head ngainst
the bed, indicting another severe
wound on head -.nd face. She
soon got a light and corded his
arm so as to stop the flow of
blood, then restored him to con-
sciousness, when she was able
to find out what was the matter
and bind up his wounds. He,
like Sam Jones, was pretty badly
bunged up, but is elill in the
ring and only lord one day from
school.
I >r. Hill went to San Antonio
last week to attend the Hoard of
Missions which met in that city.
His daughter, Mrs. Kva LeSueur,
accompanied him.
Mr. Jeff Hardie, who has been
with a bridge company for s'>me
time in tho Indian Nation, made
his home lolk.< a visit this week.
Jeff says that is a great country.
Miss Mildred Hubbard is visit-
ing her aunt in Georgetown.
Mr. C. J. Hubbard has been
sick but we are Had to learn is
up again.
Mr. Hud Foster, of Smithville
visited Mr. i'hiUip.s' family this
week.
Hill's Prairie has a brand new
store in l>r. Hill's old stand. A
neat stock of fresh grocerios.
