Improved Furniture Brace.
—Rev. H. L. Booth is much grat-
ified by the appreciation shown
by our people for his Improved
Furniture Brace. He has placed
several with some of our leading
citizens and best judges, both in
Bastrop and Smithville, and they
are pronounced excellent for the
strengthening and preserving of
furniture. It combines cheap-
ness and convenience to the ex-
tent that all may use them. No
family should he without them.
Orders may be left with Mr. Jo-
seph Pfeiffer, at Bastrop.

Dr. Hickman located a large
barbwire staple in the throat ot
a little girl, by the use of the
Xray machine, Tuesday night,
and the following morning he re-
moved it, thereby saving the lit-
tle one's life. She was the two
vear old daughter of Mr and Mrs
C. F. Adams of near Upton, and
was brought here by Dr. A. L.
Brown of that place. She swal-
lowed the staple Monday evening
and was unable *o swallow any-
thing until it was removed.
The staple was supposed to
have passed down into the stom-
ach and it could never have been
located without the use of the
Xrays. The little one's throat
was somev h it lacerated, but the
chances are she will soon recover.
It was a narrow escape. —Smith-
ville Times.
Letter to M. H. Young,
Bastrop, Texas.
Dear Sir: If you paint two
houses alike with two different
paints, and one takes twice as
much paint as the other, you
know how much paint to buy af-
ter that—so far as go far goes
don't you.
One of these paints is Devoe:
the other is only average paint.
The worst are worse than that;
the better are not much better;
no other paint than Devoe is any-
where near Devoe in go-far. De-
voe is go further; the rest are go-
short, go-middling and go-three-
uuarters. Yours truly,
20 F. W. Devoe & Co.

Fifty-six years ago Hon J.
Ne>grath bought a 400 acre tract
of land on Cedar Creek, for which
he paid $4 an acre, and on which
land he has lived for fifty-six
years. On Monday he sold the
land to Mrs. J. M. Brown, $2,000
being the price paid for the land.
Over half of the tract is fine farm-
