J. M. HOLT & CO.
That is the verdict we have heard from the majority of our customers. We are
highly gratified to know that our customers notice and appreciate our efforts. It
encourages us to strive for even better things. We are encouraged to carry larger
iiml more varied stocks. Our business has reached such proportions that we arc en-
abled to take less profit on our goods than formerly. Every effort is made to please
you and you run no risk in trading here, for you know that if you make a purchase
that is not satisfactory to you, we make it satisfactory. We never consider a trans-
action consumated until you are satistied.
STYLISH TRIMMED MILLINERY.
It is no wonder that so many ladies are buying their hats of us this year, for we have the
most stylish Millinery ever shown in the city. We have now on display some new creations that
are exact copies of very high priced models shown in the East, but our prices are only a fraction
of those of the originals. Miss Hattie Cole, an experienced trimmer has charge of this department.
If we haven't the style hat you want, Miss Cole will take pleasure in making one to suit you.
Ready to Wear Clothing for Men and Boys.
It's the style and finish
of a suit that attracts most
men ; they seldom ask if
the quality is right. Our

built up an enviable repu-
tation on the happy com-
bination of quality, style
and finish of the garments.

000 tons of cotton seed out of
13,000,000 bale crop at $10 is on-
ly worth 105,ooii,000; while 5,-

ooo crop at $20 ( which is a low-
er price for it than 50c per bush-
el for corn! ) is worth $100,000,-
000! Then is it not a simple
matter of "common sense" to
reduce the acreage?
We are reducing our cotton
acreage 50 per cent and are rais-
ing instead corn, alfalfa, oats,
peas, potatoes, (sweet aud
Irish;, horses, mules, cattle,
hogs, chickens, turkeys, fish,
etc.
I truly hope the South will
not raise 115,000,000 bales of
cotton this year and the seed
out of it to ixive away, and fur
nish our friends (the enemy) a
"big stick" to break our heads
next year.
If we don't co-operate, we are
fools! The traitors aud camp
followers will not do it. But it
we follow them, where are we?
Yours truly,
B. \V. MAKHTON,
President North Louisiana Cotton
Planters Association.
P. S. 10,000,000 bales at 15c
is worth $750,000,000, and the
seed out of it ought to bring us
$100,000,000. While a larg
crop will not net us $500,000,-
000.
This is an unassailable argu
ment in a nut shell. It' the far-
mers will reduce their cotton
acreage. J5 per cent, and make
all they need at home, it would
not be many years till they
would be independent.
