in Its history The tire started at 8:30
o'clock Wednesday morning and burn-
ed until "> o'clock in the afternoon, de
straying a total of '.'DO houses. The
financial loss will be the heaviest in
the history of MMsUslppi since the
war. The fire was three blocks wide
and twelve blocks long. The city is
putting in a new system of water
works, and the old sjstcm, which had
wooden rosin*. wer« wholly inadequate
to meet the demand. Pipes burst all
over the city, and it was Impossible to
get the water even to the first floor of
the buildings
Xni'ing the htiildinge which were not
htirn.'d are the Za/.oo county court
house and the Ricks memorial library.
Both were In the i ath of the tire, but

they were locked were fireproof The

A. Knapp, "and it is not. as expensive
as you might Imagine. The man who
will do tnai deletes to make a crop
and he will. You see there area great
many things that people can do If they
would only do It. Acres of boil weevils
could be picked by a great many farm
