The winter stocks have had their fling—they have been advertised and readvertised. They
have impressed customers, and assuming that they have well done their mercantile duty the
next and natural thought is to advertise the new spring stock, such as our new Buster Brown
Children's Shoes for boys and girls and the beautiful White House Shoe for ladies and misses.
Every pair guaranteed to give satisfaction. We also carry the daintiest dresses, dress goods
and laces and spring novelties, in fact everything for personal wear and house use. : : :

A DESERVED APPOINTMENT
Robt. Gill & Son *
It is indeed gratifying to the
many friends of Judge E. F.
Hiegins, present county judge of
Brewster county, to learn that
he has been appointed by Gov.
Colquitt as Associate Justice of
the new appellate court which
was created by the last legisla-
ture to sit at El Paso. Has, as
he is known by his bey hood com-
panions, entered the praetice of
law at Bastrop, forming a part-
nership with Judge Paul D. Page,
under the firm name of Page &
Higgins. Leaving here he went
to Houston and entered into
partnership with Hon. Jonathan
Lane, remaining there until he
went to Bay City and entered
into the practice. Upon leaving
the latter place he went to Al-
pine and was elected county
judge after a short residence,
and his appointment comes as a
just tribute to merit, intelligence
and profundity in law. i
Judge Higgins is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. W. T. Higgins, fore-
most citizens of our county, and
as many other boys raised in
Bastrop, his lights will shine
in legal circles. Judge Higgins
has been connected with import-
ant litigation, and has been very
successful. He is perhaps the
youngest member of the appel-
late courts of Texas, and while
his friends here had no doubt
that his strong endorsements and
ability would recommend him,
they feared on account of his
age. We congratulate Judge
Higgins, and trust that he may
reach the highest position in his
profession. Bastrop boasts of
having produced some of the
most learned men of Texas, and
wherever they go her sons win
recognition.
