death of Mr. Ernil E. Schuelke,
which occurred at the family
o'clock, Sun-
May 25, 1913,
saddened many hearts lu Bas-
trop, where he had lived since
the year 18(16. Mr. Sehuelne
had betn in feeble health for n
number of years, aud was
brought home from Austiu by
his devoted wife aud brother,
Mr. Paul Schuelke, a short
time siuce aud during his re-
cent eerioue illness he received
the loving cure of wife, children
aud friends. He was boru in
Scbneide Muble, Germany,
Nov. 1U, 18jU, came to Ameri-
ca with his parents in I860 aud
located at Austin, Texas. Dur-
ing the early part of 1866 he
moved to Bastrop, and up to
the time of bis failing health
was ii prominent and useful
citizen, serviug the city several
terms ate its Mayer, as well as
Alderman aud school trustee.
Later he was employed as
undertaker by T. A. Hasler &
Co. .until May, 1909, when
his failiug health made it nec-
essary to resign the above po-
sition- During his recent ill-
ness he regained his mind for
a short while, recognized each
member of his family and re
quested his daugnter, Mrs.
August Boethe, to play 'Near-
er My God to Thee' ou the vio
liu, aud as she played he sang
the song he lovssd so well. Af-
ter a few moments of conver-
sation with his family be be-
came exhausted and rapidly
grew weaker and weaker, soon
falling into unconsciousness
aud at 4:30 Sunday afternoon
