TO THE CHILDREN OF BAS-
TROP.
Some of you are in the habit
of playing inside the fence that
incloses the Confederate Monu-
ment in the court house yard;
you walk on the base and other-
wise abuse the monument. I
think when 1 beg you not to do
this, but to help us take care of
the monument, that we shall not
have any more trouble. 1 hope
your mothers and fathers will ap-
prove of this notice, atid assist in
trying to prevent any further
tresspassing inside the inclosure.
This is a very simple and reas-
onable request and I trust we
shnll not have to call attention to
it again.
I should not deprive you of
any reasonable pleasure, for I
am always the children's friend.
