been made Captain in the regu-
lar United States army, and
would bo stationed for the prv
entatCamp Hancock, Ga. Cap-
tain Betty has been in the army
since 1898, and has seen service
in Portorico and the Phillip-
pines.
A few drops of tain fell in this
vicinity Thursday afternoon —
and we are hoping for more.

Court of Bastrop County con-
venes on Monday, September

The Methodist Church.
The new pastor, Rev. H. M.
Whaling, D. I)., will preach next
Sunday, morning and evening.
Tho morning service will begin
at 11 o'clock, and the theme of
the sermon will be "Casting
Shadows. The evening sorvice
will bepn promptly at 8:15, and
the subject of the discourse will
be 'The One Thing Absolutely
Indispensable." All the genteel
sinners, who pride themselves
upon their morality are specially
invited. The new pastor is very
anxious to know his members,
and he urges them to be pres
ent at both the morning and
evening service. The Sunday
School will convene at the usual
hour, 9:30 a. m. Fathers and
mothers are urged, not merely
to send their children, but to
come with them.

several truck loads of cotton
were brought from Delvalle to
Bastrop and sold to local buv
ers. The above speaks for itself

among the visitors at Bastrop
Wednesday.
Mr. John Rrahm, a prominent
citizen of the Pin Oak com-
munity, and democratic chair-
man of his precinct, was a Wed
nosday visitor in tho county
coat.
Miss Helen Hill has returned
to her home at Austin.
Mrs. O. G. Brinkmeyer and
little daughter left Saturday for
Waco to join Mr. Brinkmty r
Mr. Brinkmeyer will be at the
Orpheum Theatre again this
season.
Mrs. Maggie A. Green return-
ed the first of tho week from
market, where she selected a
splendid line of millinery and
notions for the trade of Bastrop
and vicinity.

and children, Pearl, Henry, Ben
hh, Emma and Earnest, of
Manor, are visiting Mr. and
Mrs. P. A. Hanson. Mr. Hanson
is engaged in tho jewelry busi
ness and is one <if the prominent
citizens of the above thriving
little city.
Mr. L. A. Turner, one of the best
citizens of Bastrop county and
a good friend of tho Advertiser,
was in the city the past week.
Mr. Campbell Green was home
from Houston for a few days the
past week.
Mr. C. L. Moneure, of the
Bastrop Millinery Company, has
returned home fiorn market.
Mrs. J. E. Haines had charge of
the millinery emporium during
Mrs. Moncure's absence.
Mr. George Moore was among
the Cedar Creek folks in town
this week.
Hon. Roger Byrne and Hon
S. L. Staples, of the Bastrop
County Exemption Board, were
here at the mueting of the board
Wednesday and Thursday.
Mr. C. R. Ingram, a promi-
nent merchant of Red Rock, was
in Bastrop this week.
Dr. and Mrs. E. T. Morris
were recent visitors at the Mor-
ris home,
Mr. Sidney Green, with the
Fire Insurance Commission at
Austin, was home for Tuesday's
holiday.

The Knitting Committee.
In answer to an urgent appeal
to the Red Cross workers of
Bastrop county for woolen ar-
ticles, mutilers, sweaters, socks
and wristlets, the chairman of
our chapter has asked that as
many of our women as possible
join this committee and be ready
to begin work as soon as the
yarn and needles can be provid-
ed. The work is very simple and
directions easily understood.
As chairman of the Knitting
Committee I invite all who will
help, especially all elderly wo-
men who can do this more easily
than any other Red Cross work,
to meet with me in my home
next, Tuesday afternoon at Ave
o'clock, when more definite ar
rangoments may be made. If
you cannot attend the meeting
send your name for work.
