his profession in that Northwestern
country and is very well and favora-

fraternity) regarding various proper-

Southwest Texas.
Both Mr. Shields and McPherson
spent a few days with Roberts looking
over the Bastrop territory aud are
highly impressed with the possibili-

Messrs N'dson and Dornin'.' are well

ol the oldest oil operators in Ameri-

Mcpherson's acquaintance with
the oil resources of South West Texas
extends bat k many years. He was

He started in the oil business back

He Developed the enormous gas

WESTERN INION REFUSE TO
ESTABLISH OFFICE
A petition forwarded by the Bas-
trop busiiu s men to the Western
Union Telegraph Company for the es-
tablishment of an up town office for
tin handling of tbeir business in
Bastrop was refused consideration on
the ground that the business accord-
ing to their files is only tviminal.
It is regretted that the appeal of
th" citizenship at this time could not
have tli font necessary for making
this change in order to meet, the in-
creased homines, that is sure to come.
Big business is usually '-.andled by
ti It-phono and any inci nvenionce that
niav arise to hinder nrorupt service
will eaus< those seeking this avenue
of transacting bu it.e s will cause
them to go to pla-i-s of making
headquarters that offer better farili-
t ies.
There is no question that some ore
of the oii inter* -ts that ire develop-
ing in this county will hit the pool
tne.v are eeking and when it does
come the town that is better able to
handle the situation v.-lll get the cor-
sideratior.
Another tpp-a! from the business

order to < et what we want and
