"BETTER FOOD FOR LESS"
The many friends of Mr. IK C.
Wertzner were grieved to learn of
his death which occured at the family
residence after a long illnes...
Mr Wertzner had been suffering
for the past seven years, but at times
was able to l>e up and at work, until
a few weeks ago when he was taken
'!■ \vn, and lie had been confined to his
bed since.
He was horn in Bastrop, Texas, in
the year of 1H7S, and died Saturday
night, June 'J! , I!•!!'.', at the age of ."I
years, lie had made Bastrop his home
during his entire life.
Mr. Wertzner was a staunch mem-
ber of the Kpiscopal Church and was
Superint ndent of the Sunday Si-hoot
of that denomination. He took a
vi rv active part in the church work
during the years bef ,re illness over-
took him.
\ useful life has ended, but the
memory of th;; christian character

Him, whom it was Ins dailv practice

and a kindly greeting for all, and he
was held in high esteem by the eitl-

It' 1 were President of a Service
Club r a Chamber of •Commerce in a
town of from two to two hundred
i thousand population. I would, one
week, invite all of the gasoline station
attendants to luncheon, the next
week, all of the hotel clerks, the next
I the soda fountain and drug store
clerk- ,ano the next week, I'd have
an evening meeting and invite all the
waitresses, waiters and restaurant
i owners.
At theft meetings I'd have . oni<
well-liked and popular man who had
a lot of humor, snap and pep in his-
make up, give a booster talk on our
t"".n Not i lot of undue praise, nor
mi •>\,iti >■ .n "Our Home Town," but
traigh f: i.i the shouhltr calling a
spade a spade. I'd sell thoM- men and
1 women on why they ;hould sell every-
body with whom they come in con-
tact on what the town offered, what
it needed and I'd show them why they
should d ' for their own p icketbooks,
as well as the town in general.
I'd in it that facts and figur-
were placed in their mind, and hands
that would make it possible for them
to put up a real sales talk. Among
other thinks, this would include the
growth of the town in the last five
years ami why, population of trade
zone and the income derived from the
trade zone, historical facts, high
, lights of interest, and industres. If
1 the town had anything that no other
I town had, I'd see that these people
had all the details.
j In other words. I'd start right now
to place in the hands of those who
come in contact with the potential
customers of the town, sales ammuni-
tion to SELK the town.
These people are the logical people
to start with and through them thous-
ands of dollars can be made for every
merchant.
Evt y day there is a constant flow
of gold dollars going through your
city, but no town can expect to <r< t
an even break unless they ask for it.
