Just recovering from tornadoes
that took closely to eighty lives, sec.
tions of Central and South Texas
Saturday night were battling flood
waters that resulted from storms
that in one instance was a^am classi-
fied as a tornado.
The heaviest rain since lUlil, when
100 were drowned in flood waters of
the Little River, fell in the vicinity
of Tetnlpe, causing streams tl( leave
their banks and damai;** farm lands
and halt highway traffic.
Near Mexia the heaviest fall in
seven years was recorded. Six inches
fell in that section, forcing streams
beyond their hanks and washing out
highway bridges and destroying rail-
road trackage.
Strikes Near Austin
The tornado struck in the Hill
county thirty miles north of Auhtin
killing one man and injuring five
other persons and doing some prop-
erty damage.
Cloudbursts at Mart and Marl in
near Waco, caused streams in that
section to leave their banks and flcmd ,
lowlands and damage highways. 7
inches of rain fell at Mart, causing
.sections of that city to be flrioded.
The fall at Marlin measured «ix
inches. Very little rain fell in W'auo. i
Hut the Brazos River there was *x-
I.octed t,, reach a flood stage of twen-
ty-one feet from the heavy rain .i?er
it upper watershed.
Stream around Georgetown
*
were overtaxed by heav> rains Fjri- j
day niyht. Rains were reportedQc '
n any other sections of the State, aiid
in some cases, especially in the im^th J
west area, were expected to be beip- j
ficial. ^
