McDADE, May 26 We promised
in our la-', letter to the Advertisi r
to say something more of the life ol
H. Garwood, but oweing to u many
things urising along the great high-
way of life, beg to postpone what we
intended to say of him in his noble
effort while living to reach life's
highest pinacle, wisdom und know-
ledge.
We learn this, (Monday) morning
of the upointment of Miss Ncpptc
Rutherford us postmistress ut Lex-
ington, Texas. A better selection
couldn't have been made. Miss Neppte
was born and reared here, and she
is fully competent of the office to
which she was appointed and now
holds. Her appointment was on the
basis uf a competive examination
made at Giddings some time ago.
Congratulations and very best wishes
Miss Neppie,
Our heart was made to tremble
with sorrow on hearing of the pass-
ing of Brother Pink Bailey at Aus-
tin last Monday. His remains were
brought back to the Young's Prairie
cemetery near his old home to rest
from his lubors. We heard a man
say of him some years ago: "If Pink
Bailey is not a Christian, then there
is none." 'To his good wife and
family we extend in their time of
bereavement, our sincere sympathy.
We loved him, he was true to his
God, true to his family, and true to
his friends ami neighbors. If there
is any higher compliment which can
be paid to him or any man, then we
don't know how to say it.
And stiil it rains. Had anothcr

"Last time around." While in
Elgin, we made it a point to meet at
the park with the Loafers OuTi and
asking a friend near by what had be-
come of the club's president, my
friend answered, "Have you heard
about it?" "No." "Well, he quit
the club in the spring, embarking in
the duck business, and passing hi.s
house this morning, found him sit-
ting out in the rocker, rocking seven
little ducklings, looking forward to
the time when he will be financially
able to supply Elgin's pressing de-
mand, not only for ducks, but for the
goslings as well. Last time around
and—won't say it. Now, sweet
dreams to everybody including Elgin's
"backsliders". Adieu.
