The Advert iaei regrets very much
That the following typographical er-
ror appeared in the ad for Elzner
Corner last week: the line which
read "No payments 'till 11178!" should
have been "No Payments 'till lt'HT".
With deep appreciation and much
enthusiasm, the members of the Elsie
Maynard Bible Class received three
substantial donations toward their
Santa Claus Fund this week.
Individual members of the Lions
Club contributed a donation amount-
ing to at their meetig Mon-
day evening and on Tuesday the Citi-
zens State Bank and the First Nat-
ional Hank contributed $">.(M) each.
Other smaller donations have been
made, and the class members wish
to thank every one for his generosity.
Through ourtesy of D. F. I.uekie,
owner of the Strand Theatre and
L. P. Pigott, manager, the class is
sponsoring a picture "The Big
Game" at the theatre op Sunday ana
Monday, December 13 ami 14, with a
large percentage of all tickets sold
by them to go into the Santa Claus
Fund.
The Santa C'laus Fund was estab-
lished last year by the liastrop Ad-
vertiser, and through it almost 200
children were made happy on Christ-
mas morning. After all, the Spirt?
of Christmas is to give, and nothing
makes one happier than to give to
utile boys and gills.
The fund will be handled in the
same way this year by the Bible
('lass members. Do your part of help
them!
Anothei Christinas circular strai-
ght from Santa's workshop at the
North Pole was also distributed a
round Bastrop by Elkins Store this
week. Its colorful front page greets
you hilariously with the announce-
ment that Mickey M< use and his gang
have, with Santa's assistance, just
opened Toytown at Elkins, and in-
vite you to come by and see just
what they are showing which in-
cludes, incidentl.v, vrift> for all the
family!
Mr. Long, manager of Elkins, has
also arranged to have your Christ-
inas packages w rapped at a special
counter in hiv stoic during the hoii
days. Take your packages there,
where they will tie attractively wrap-
ped a' a nominal charge for the ma-
'• rial used.
Booth Di y (toads Sti-ic has don

gala costume it is! Thej; cordially in
vite vi'ti to make their store your
hopping headquarters, where the
atmosphere of the season prevails
l "th in decoration and prices!
Thev have distributed this week
a Christmas Circular tha* is chuck
full of splendid gift suggestions, all
reasonably priced, for your conven
ience in checking your shopping list.
Read it over carefully, and make
your selection ef Christmas presents.
Then you may be assured that your
gifts will be just right, because
Booth always sells good, dependable
merchandise, first iri dyle, first in
quality, first in price.

ITNKRAL SERVICES HKLI> FOR
II I ESKEW MONDAY M
I KBNOON
Funeral services were held Mon-
day afternoon at 2:110 from the fam-
ily residence for one ot Bastrop
County's most honored and beloved
pioneer citizens, II. J. Eskew, whose
death occurred Sunday morning, De-
cember <>, a* * : 1 r a. m.
J. A. Derrick of Timpson, for
pastor of the First Baptist
Rev
merly
< hurch in Bastrop, conducted the
services. He was assisted by Rev. C.
M. Ashniore of Austin, local Christian
pastor, and Rev. T. R. Thomas, pre-
sent pastor of the Bastrop Baptist
, Church. Interment was in the Fair*
I view cemetery. Symbolic of the love
[and respect he commanded in the
'community was the huge blanket ol
! beautiful flowers that covered hir>
grave. Pall bearers were Judge
Paul D. Page, E. D. Cartwright, \V
B. Ransome, Judge Hartford Jenkins,
jW K Price, Robert Trigg, H. J.
: Moore of Latlrange, and J. S. Haynit-
'of Smithville.
Henry James Eskew wa born neai
Bastrop on October 10, IKti.i, son of
Joe and Fannie Eskew. The great (
est part of his life he spent in Bas-1
trop County, and on October 7, 1890,
he was married to Miss Mary Ruth
Watterson at Watterson. There they
made their heme for many years, and
Mr. Eskew took his place among the
most prominent farmers and cattle-
men in Central Texas. He was one
of the old Trail Drivers, who follow,
ed the herd over the perilous cattle
trails of the Texas frontier into the
western and northern states. It was
men like Mr. Eskew who built the
Empire State of Texas.
With an active, adventurous life i
behind, he faced death uncomplain-1
ing and unafraid, staunch in his be
lief of Christianity. He died follow-
ing an illness of almost three years.
He became seriously ill the first part
I of last week.
| He is survived by his widow; one
brother, Dal Eskew of Austin; one
sister, Mrs. Mary Gardner of Austin;
ten children, Mrs. Wallace Simmor.3
of Watterson, Mrs. Howard Smith of
l.ytton Springs. Mrs. M. D Dinges of
Houston, Mr.- Elizabeth Walter of
Fredericksburg, Mi.-.- Wilma Eskew
f Bastrop; and Dave, Joe Charlie,
Oren and Vernon Eskew, all of Bas-
trop; and fifteen grand children. Ml
of his children were with him at the
time of his death.
I he Christmas season is here again, and with the com
mg of C hristmas comes also the little matter of Christmas
shopping
I he merchants of Bastrop have a splendid line of
goods . the best they've had in several years, with special
( hristmas selections in all of the stores. A cheery holiday
atmosphere hangs over the town, and prevails in most of the
store;',
But the majority of people i" Bastrop go into the stores
and look over .ill of the things displayed for the benefit of
the C hristmas shopper, and then go to a neighboring tow'i to
buy their gifts.
1 he merchants in Bastrop live with us, work with us,
and during the year they offer us good merchandise at rea
sonable prices, and when the holiday season comes around,
they get in a completely new line of merchandise of th,. same
quality and the same price that we ran find in other towns.
Yet the other towns benefit from the holiday trad,, much
more than do our home town merchants.
Let's try our Bastrop merchants first this year And
try our darnedest to find what we want here After all. the
spirit of Christmas is giving, and v>> owe our first Christmas
present to our home-town merchants! They are the people
who keep our schools in operation who keep up our churches
and civic organizations, who pay the taxes to keep up the
streets. There's one thing sure—the out-of-town merchants
don't contribute to our P. T. A., or our Missionary Societies,
or our school organizations We owe our livelihood to our
home town merchant. Let's give him first chance — and a
fair chance — at our money
