Here, inappotiess dining room,
sawmiHcrs fatten themsehes on
country food spread on long fam-
iiy tabtes. And, when they're fin-
ished, they are iikeiy to head for
the domino parlor or sit a spell
on the long hreczy front porch.
Hotel manager Mrs. R.L. Watts,
better known to the sawmillcrs
as "Jack," serves anywhere fram
30 to 50 customers a day.
And there always is room for
another or two.
Alderbranch. in Anderson
County, is one of East Texas'
smallest towns—and one of the
easiest to find.
Signs on four major highways
make it easy for a traveler to
find the town. And, when they
get there, city limit signs prom-
inently proclaim its location.
But there's a hitch:
Anderbranchisaghosttown.
Its only building is a one-room
election hall.
Named for the alders that
grew on a nearby stream, Me
settlement folded. The closest
thing to an Alderbrancher is
HoytHogan. who lives just be-
yond the north city limits sign.

Rex Allen, the singing movie

President and Mrs. Lyndon B.
Johnson hpve been sent a special
invitation to attend the festivities.
A team of 32 Youth Quadrille
members carried the leather-
bound invitation Pony Express
style 270 miles from Jacksonville
to the Johnsons' LBJ Ranch.
A similar invitation was car-
ried to Austin last year to Gov.
and Mrs. John Connally.
