Safety Association
Urges Motorists To
Use Extreme Caution
Austin. — The Texas Safety
Association has issued a "last min-
ute" appeal to motorists and
pedestrians to use extreme cau-
tion on streets and highways
during thcholidays.
"Plans for a merry and bright
Christmas can be rudely shat-
tered for your family and friends
if you become a hoiiday casualty,"
Quiticy V. Tuma of Houston, TSA
President, said.
He reminded pedestrians that
one out of four (traffic accidents
at Christmastime involve pedes-
trians. And. almost 4)i per cent
of the fatalities occur between
H p. m. and midnight Christmas
Eve.
Last year in Texas, 41 pedes-
trians were killed and 3K1 injured
in traffic during the month of
December. On Christmas Eve, 14
persons were killed in motor ve-
hicle accidents. There were 13
motor vehicle fatalities on Christ-
ina." Day and 13 on New Year's
Day.
officers know Death
takes noholiday," he said. "And,
from their experience, they arc
well aware that- Christmas Eve
often proves the most disastrous
time of the entire year. Many of
the *ra°edies can be trjcd to
excessive speed and 1 tic use of
intoxicants."
In closing Tuma said: "Put
your best foot forward and use
extreme caution when driving.
Stay alert and alive in '65-"
