citizen of Texas, to proceed immediately to the city of New York
for the purpose of purchasing an armed steam vessell suitdaah^
to defend our coasts and harbors - Such a vessel will be of the
utmost importance, and probably our funds could not be better
applied.
The independent position which it is expected and hoped that
Texas will assume in a short time, renders it necessary that the
most active and efficient preparations be made to sustain that
position, and never recede one step, nor one inch in our march -
That Texas t^yht to declare independence at the next convention
we have no doubt, as we have heretofore written in our former
dispatch - In this opinion the commissioners are all united -
We therefore hope that our measures adopted here, to sustain
t
that declaration, will be approved of by the Gov. and by our
fellow citizens -
