This decade had very little growth in the beginning as a result of urbanization. As Blacks begin to
get better jobs and could afford homes out of the inner city, Blacks moving had a major impact on
the Black Church, especially Antioch.
Thanks to the Lord a revival came with the return of the young adults, and the baby boom Pastor
Rector had pleaded for.
Pastor Rector continued to preach black male development and academic excellence, with our
children excelling in all fields which includes a judge and three professional athletes.. .and son in the
Gospel Andrew Wilson building a new edifice in the center of the city.
As Antioch continued to set the example for the future Pastor Rector brought to the church and
community an Assistant, Rev. E. Thurman Walker, who has now become the Co-Pastor and whose
ministry has enhanced the Antioch Mystic beyond description.
It was in this decade Pastor Rector faced his greatest crisis. It looked like his ministry was at the end,
but God still had a place for him on this earth. God allowed him to survive a double transplant, and
brought him back from the dead twice. These miracles have made him known as the miracle man
of the East Side.
The Antioch Mystic continues. Usually during crisis things fall apart, but during this crisis Antioch
never wavered and continued to receive blessings through the leadership of Rev. Walker.
Pastor Rector remembers that while he was waiting for his transplant in Dallas, Texas, Sis. Minor
called to tell him the good news that the Church Mortgage was being paid off.
While Pastor Rector was hospitalized, the parking lots and the renovation of the fellowship hall were
completed at a cost of nearly $200,000.00. Also, the new kitchen and dining room was completed
at a cost of over $100,000.00 cash.
Pastor Rector is one of the leading Black employers in the city. Then and now, all projects have been
done by Black Contractors.
