located at 300 SE Georgia Ave. Come join us for a time
of fun, fellowship and praise and worship. We will also
be sharing about our 2009 World Wide Conference in
Louisville, KY.

BROADWAY BAPTIST CHURCH
Has it happened yet? Are those New Year resolutions
already history? If they are, don't feel bad, because you
are among the "normal". The average person keeps their
resolutions 3-5 days, but I have good news. You can start
again today. In Exodus 34 God tells Moses to "come up
in the morning . . . and present thyself ... to me in the
top of the mount." Each day is an opportunity to begin
again with God's love, mercy and grace. Jeremiah wrote
in Lamentations 3:22-23 that the Lord's mercies are "new
every morning", His "compassions fail not", and "great
is His faithfulness". So when you stumble and falter,
remember God will be there to pick you up, refresh and
revive you, and give you strength to begin again. Each
morning or anytime you need strength, "come up on the
mount". It will make you strong, glad of heart and your
day brighter.
The following is what is going on at Broadway for the
month of January: Our Awana Clubs have started back in
2010. If you are interested in your child being in Awana
Clubs, it is not too late. We meet every Sunday at 6 p.m.
in the Family Center. This two-hour program allows
kids to learn Bible verses, hear Bible stories and play fun
and exciting games. This year's clubs are Puggles (potty-
trained 2 and 3 year olds), Cubbies (4 and 5 year olds),
Sparks (Kindergarten through second grade), and T&T
(third through fifth grades.)
Starting Wednesday Jan. 13, at 7 p.m. the youth will
begin having sendees in the Family Center (gym). These
services are for grades 6th - 12th. Come worship the Lord
with us on Wednesday nights.
Our' Children's Choir called Jesus Jammers also starts
back up on the 13th. Not only do we prepare the kids to
perform musicals for our church services, but we have
a missions theme for the month of January. We will be
sharing with the children the story of Amy Carmichael
called "I Dare". Amy was a missionary to India back in
the early 20th century.
We are looking forward to our Mission Conference,
Jan. 20, through the 24. This year we will enjoy Bro. Les
Garner, Bro. Rex Switzer, and James Leatherwood as
they return and share with us what God is doing on their
fields of Mexico and Ethiopia and Paraguay.
We are looking forward to a wonderful Sunday, and we
extend an open imitation to all. Come out and worship
with us at Broadway where God is changing lives one
heart at a time.
FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH
First Baptist Church members and staff are tremen-
dously grateful this month that God provided Danna
Maberry to be our church pianist 34 years ago. Whether
it be a phone call, a card in the mail, or a hug next time
you see Danna — let her know how much more worship-
ful the services are because of her gift of love to our con-
gregation. The many hours of preparation added to the
God-given skill in her presentation are a huge portion of
the music ministry at FBC Sweetwater.
Watch for further details as you mark your calendar for
Sunday evening, Jan. 17, at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall,
for a "Mystery Dinner".
Both regular sign-up and on-line sign-up begin soon
for new Growth Groups. Watch for spiritual topics, time
schedules and locations offered for a whole semester of
growth and fellowship.
Bring the entire family to 213 East Third Street, next
door to the Post Office, on Sunday morning and begin
the first month of the new year with prayer, Scripture
and a message from God's Word, presented by out pas-
tor, Phillip Thomas. This message will draws us closer
to each other and encourages us for another week. Bible
Study begins at 9:15 a.m. and morning worship at 10:30
a.m. If unable to attend in person, listen to the service on
KXOX radio (96.7 FM and 1240 AM). Check our website
for more detailed information at www.fbcsweetwater.
org plus search FBC Sweetwater, TX for our logo on
Facebook.
FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH
(DISCIPLES OF CHRIST)
A new decade is beginning in our world, and we, as
Christians, should promi se to attend church and become
more active in our beliefs. As you make your year-
ly resolutions, promise that you and your family will
strengthen your faith and spend more time with the
Christian Community. As the New Year begins at First
Christian, we thank our God that we all have the freedom
and privilege of coming together in praise and worship.
Services begin at our church with Sunday school at
9:50 a.m. We provide a staffed nursery for infants and
very young children so that parents can feel comfortable
to attend a class of their own. Following is the 10:50 a.m.
service in the Sanctuary, w ith Rev. David Stevens bring-
ing the message. Everyone is welcome.
Sunday, Jan. 10, the Elders and the Deacons will meet
at 8:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall for breakfast. Following
breakfast, there will be separate meetings for the Deacons
and the Elders to discuss relevant church plans. All who
are members of these two groups should attend these
important meetings. That same afternoon, at 5 p.m., the
Church Board will meet in the church Library. Again, this
planning meeting is essential. See you Sunday at First
Christian Church, and all Sundays afterward!
FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
"Thinking Small Can Cripple Your Life"
There are a lot of people in the world today who limit
themselves, their imagination, thinking small, and never
see the potential of what God has in store. And what hap-
pens? When we think small, we never become what God
wants us to be, never become who God creates us to be,
and never become who God would have helped us to be-
simply because we could never imagine that God might
have something incredible in store for us. I wonder, are
we some of those people?
A man waiting outside the place of worship was such a
man. He sat for years and years beside the gates leading
inside begging for financial assistance. He did this think-
ing there was nothing else for him, and that he could do
nothing else with his life. Little did he know that Peter
and John were coming to the temple to pray.
Yet Peter, hearing the man's cries, hearing the beggar's
plea, didn't give the man what he was asking for. He
looked him in the eye and said, "I have no silver or gold,
but here's what I do have for you. In the name of Jesus
Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!" Then, he reached
down, took the man by the hand... and he lifted him up!
The Bible says he began leaping for joy, walking and
jumping all over, and then going into the temple with
Peter and John to pray! All because Peter saw possibili-
ties in the beggar that the beggar never knew, dreamed or
considered were there before.
Friends, what possibilities might lie deep inside of
your life too? Could it be that God is just waiting for us
to really start living life the way He planned for us? Is it
possible that we might move beyond where we've been
for years and years and open ourselves up to a brand-new
fulfillment that we've never known before? Defeats and
setbacks are part of life. At times they overwhelm us and
relegate us to the side of the road. Don't allow yourself
to become marginalized, routine and ordinary. You have
phenomenal possibilities inside of you! And so does this
great Church! We are more that this! Stand up today.
Leap for joy today. God is calling us today!
Recognizing the amazing possibilities before us, in the
name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Church, Child of God,
there's no telling what God can do through us! But we'll
never know... until we toss out our small-mindedness,
give God the chance, take Him by the hand, rise and
walk!
First United Methodist Church invites you to be part
of worship and learning with us in this new year of pos-
sibilities. Our Sunday Traditional worship is at 8:50 a.m.
and the Celebration worship senice is at 10:50 a.m. We
gather for Christian Education in small groups at 9:45
with great fellowship and learning together as we grow in
our faith understanding.
Sunday, January 17th, we will honor the life, ministry
and example of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as we
share together in worship! Come hear the words of Dr.
King that changed a nation and transformed the world.
As always, you are invited to grow with us as we seek to
grow in our love for God and our love for one another. As
we do, may we experience the joy of being part of a family
where faith matters, where grace is felt and encouraged,
and where love is real every day!
Yours and His, Rev. Steve Davis, Pastor

growing spiritually, fulfilling our God-given gifts, wit-
nessing to others, and ministering to ones in need.
THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST
OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
The Church emphasizes that we should nurture oth-
ers through compassionate service. President Dieter F.
Uchtdorf, Second Counselor in the First Presidency said:
""Disciples of Christ throughout all ages of the world have
been distinguished by their compassion. In the end, the
number of prayers we say may contribute to our happi-
ness, but the number of prayers we answer may be of
even greater importance. Let us open our eyes and see
the heavy hearts, notice the loneliness and despair; let us
feel the silent prayers of others around us, and let us be
an instrument in "the hands of the Lord to answer those
prayers."
The G ospel Doctrine class will study The Old Testament
this year. The lessons will be:
Jan. 10 - 'Thou Wast Chosen Before Thou Wast Born"
