The 1st Annual "Ridin' for
Cash" Bull Bash was held on Feb.
20, 2010, at the Nolan County
Coliseum, and $5,714 was raised
to benefit the visually impaired.
The money that was raised this
year went to buy braille books for
the schools in Sweetwater and the
surrounding area.
Annie and Matt Miles of
Sweetwater and Stetson Rasberry
of Roby were able to buy books for
East Ridge, Southeast, Roby (ISD),
Blackwell (CISD) and Sweetwater

of the titles of the books include
many Dr. Suess books, the Harry
Potter Series, Boxcar Children
and Nancy Drew. In total they
were able to buy over 450 braille
books for the area schools.
The 2nd annual "Riding For
Cash" Bull Bash will be on Feb.
19, 2011 at the Nolan County

still be used to benefit the visu-
ally impaired. Be sure to look
for the 2nd Annual "Riding For
Cash" Bull Bash next February,
and come out, have fun, show
your support and help make a dif-
ference.

Thurlow named SIS
Teacher of the Year
BY AMANDA MORENO
Staff Writer
Everyday is a balancing act when it comes to teach-
ing.
Kimberly Thurlow, a fifth grade teacher at Sweetwater
Intermediate School, was recognized as Teacher of the
Year 2010.
"Teaching is a balancing act," Thurlow said. "It requires
hard work, motivation and flexibility."
Originally from Ohio, Thurlow has been teaching
the past four years at Sweetwater Independent School
District, but has seven years of teaching under her
belt. She received a Bachelors of Science in education
degree, after attending Miami University and Ohio State
University.
"A good teacher knows when to stand firm and when
to bend," Thurlow said. "They need to not only be a cap-
tivating speaker, but a good listener."
She understands that a teacher must demand the
most from all students, but at the same time respect
their differences. In order to teach, she said a teacher
should be able to not only use teaching methods, but
