Marathon Oil buys
Texas oil fields for $3.5B
NEW YORK (AP) — Marathon Oil will spend $3.5
billion in cash to snap up oil and natural gas fields in
Texas as the company boosts exploration and produc-
tion in a highly targeted and energy rich region.
The Houston company said Wednesday that it
has reached an agreement with the owner, Hilcorp
Resources Holdings, a partnership that includes
Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.
Marathon gets about 141,000 net acres within the
Eagle Ford shale formation. The region overlaps
Atascosa, Karnes, Gonzales and DeWitt counties the
southern part of the state. As of May 1 the land was
producing 7,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
Marathon plans to add new wells and produce 80,000
barrels per day by 2016.
The Eagle Ford formation has become one of the
most active plays in the country because it contains
not only natural gas, but crude oil as well. And the
price of oil is skyrocketing again.
Oil prices have surged more than 30 percent in the
past 12 months and a barrel was trading above $100
Wednesday. Natural gas prices have remained rela-
tively flat.
Marathon said that the 36 wells currently working
in the area are producing mostly crude oil and con-
densate.
The deal is expected to close on Nov. 1. Combined
with other acquisitions, Marathon says its position
in the Eagle Ford should double this year to 285,000
net acres.
Company shares dropped $1.12, or 2 percent, to
$53-05 in premarket trading, with fresh job numbers
sending most indexes lower.
Warrant
Continued from pagel
the scene.
The DPS worked with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage
Commission, they didn't know Anderson was in the car
during the accident.
Anderson has several other outstanding warrant and
faces charges of furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a
minor.
18 year-old James Gilger was driving at the time of the
wreck. He was arrested and charged with intoxication
manslaughter in Coleman County.
TABC and DPS routinely work together on cases that
involve alcohol-related collisions and fatalities. "Our
partnership with DPS and other law enforcement agen-
cies is invaluable in these types of investigations," said
TABC Lieutenant Randy Motz. "TABC conducts many
types of investigations. This investigation centered on
the source of tl alee lolic beverages and we determined
that they were illegally handled," Motz added.
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code stipulates that
purchasing, furnishing or making alcoholic beverages
available to a minor is a class A misdemeanor, punish-
able by a fine of up to $4,000 and/or one year in jail,
and a 180-day driver's license suspension.
Lieutenant Motz stressed that "This terrible tragedy
could have been avoided. Making alcoholic beverages
available to minors places the pub i's safety at risk and
often has tragic consequences."

Countless Counting
Ten lepers. All of them diseased and outcasts. According to the law of
the day, they were not allowed to live and move amongst the people
and were obliged to keep their distance. If a stranger approached, the
leper was required to give out a warning of "unclean, unclean!!!" So,
needless to say, having leprosy was a dreaded and very much feared
event. Yet, as incredible as it may seem, an event recorded in Luke
17:11-19 reveals how nine of these ten lepers did not even stop to thank
God and give the Lord glory for healing them. Cicero said many years
ago, "A thankful heart ii not only the greatest of virtue, but the parent
of all other virtues..," Surely this thought is borne out in the lines of the
famous hymn entitled; COUNT OUR BLESSINGS. As the hymn line
goes; "Count your many blessings, name them one by one, and it will
surprise you what the Lord has done!" Once a person learns the art of
cultivating a grateful heart, and learns how to express thankfulness for
the blessings of God, it becomes difficult to stop counting. But, perhaps
the biggest benefit is the fact that when we have our minds and hearts
on things for which we are thankful, we are less distracted by problems
around us. Do you suppose its possible that God knows that, and had
that in mind when He said; IN EVERYTHING, GIVE THANKS, FOR
THIS IS THE WILL OF GOD IN CHRIST JESUS CONCERNING
YOU...I THESS. 5-18, and as the great hymn says in the first verse;
When Upon Life's Billows, You Are Tempest Tossed, When You Are
Discouraged, Thinking All Is Lost, Count Your Many Blessings!
