CoHega Station. Texas, Dec. H —Cap-
tain Forbes and Ma baaket bat) war-
ttora are out every afternoon going
through hard practice in preparation
(or the strenuous acheduie with the
) conference teama thia winter. The
Southwestern Conference champion-
ahip team that never ioat a aingie
game of ita acheduie last year ia vir-
tuatly intact and proapecta are indeed
bright for another ait victorioua team.
The main probiam confronting the
coach ia to find a man to HH the ahoea
at forward of Captain McQuillan of
iaat year's team, who graduated with
the aiaaa of '20. There are many Hke-
iy candidatea out for hia poaition,
though, and competition ia going to be
keen. AH the men are in good con-
dition and. under the coaching of Bibie,
promiae to develop into one of the
moat aggreaaive fives to be aeen on a
conference court thia Beaaon. There
wiH be piayed on the 17 and 18 of
December two pre-season gamea with
Bayior Medical Coiiege of Daiiaa.
Theae gamea wilt in no way be eaay
aa baaket bait ia practically the only
game indulged in by the Dallas school,
and they always put up a close game.
The outcome of theae contests wiii
give the basket ball followers of the
state a chance to get a line on the

Robert Granville Caldwell, Ph. D.,
professor of American history at Rice
Institute, read a lecture on "Periods
in Econ-omic Development" Monday
afternoon at 4:30 at the University
Club, which was the second of a series
of two lectures on "Stages in Historical
Development."
"Man, according to Shakespeare, has
seven ages," Mr. Caldwell declared,
and on the economic aide he has pass-
ed through at least five ciear economic
stages. The age of the hunter passes
into that of the shepherd, then come
the agricultural village and the medie-
val town with its guild8. Last a new
age of contract and of capital, first
taking root in the huts of peasants
and at iast producing our modem life
with its great cities, its wealth, its
complex economic atructurea and ita
vast and unsolved problema of tomor-
row."

season was ghrsn. In "the wtMe-l
it waa mentioned that Austin Col-
lege would again be on our acheduie.
It further atated that "The Sherman
team haa been playing high sohool foot-
ball this year and bida fair to rank
high in football in the future." The
miBtake ia obvious. "High class foot-
ball" in place of "high school football"
of course was what was written, aa
the j*egt of the sentence readily indi-
cates. ^
The mistake has just been called to
the attention of The Thresher, and we
take pleasure in correcting this typo-
graphical error.
IT.
You #re it, I am it. Neither of us
is it. It is that thing right there, it is
that spot on the horizon. It is near,
it ia far. It is cold, it is hot. It is
dangerous, it is harmless.
It ia anything which hasn't another
name. It haa an unlimited range of
meaning. It is an infiniteaimai atom
and it is the universe; and it is every
conceivable object between the two
extremes. It ia thought, a feeling, a
paaaion, a wish, a desire, a hope, an
emotioh. It is nothing. It is every-
thing. It is masculine, feminine or
neuter, or it is all three or neither.
It may be a presidential election or it
may be a gnat. It is anything.
It is the universal synonym.
Moral: Don't be an It.
