COLLEGE PROFESSORS
OVEASSNAMCE TO
WHSON WUMATWH
To Aid in Perpetuating Ideal*
of Woodrow WH-
New York. Sept. 15.—A committee
of coilegb presidents and professors is
to be one of the major groups to assist
in the owrk of the Woodrow Wiison
Foundation, according to an announce-
ment just given out from the head-
quarters of that organization at 150
Nassau street. New York. Hamilton
Holt, editor of the independent and ex-
ecut ve director of the Foundaton, an-
n unced that Stephen P. Duggau, di-
rector of the Institute of international
Education of New York, is to be chair-
man of what is to be catted the educa-
tional committee of the Foundation,
and that Professor Duggan has already
outiined his committee and is receiv-
ing acceptances for membership on it.
it is the hope of the Woodrow Wttson
Foundation to ratty to its support the
largest possible body of college gradu-
ates and undergraduates, says Mr.
Holt's statement. The purpos of the
Foundation is to honor and perpetuate
the ideals of Mr. Wilson, and, to use
the words defining its purpose, it is to
be "created by public subscription iu
recognition of the nationat and inter-
national services of Woodrow Wilson,
twice President of the United States,
who furthered the cause of uman free-
dom and was instrumental in pointing
out effective methods for the coopera-
tion of the liberal forces of mankind
throughout the worid.
"The Award or Awards from the in-
come of the Foundation wilt be made
from time to time by a natonaiiy con-
stituted committee to the individual or
group that has rendered, within a spe-
cified period, meritorious service to
democracy, public welfare, iiberai thot
or peace through justice."
it is proposed to give the Foundation
a^ endowment of one miltion dotlars
or more, to be subscribed as a free-will
offering from ail parts of the country
and from ali ciasses of its peopie, the
sum to be kept permanently intact and
the income to be used as an award or
awards somewhat tike the Nobel
Prizes, one of which Mr. Wilson, him-
setf, hoids. The money is to be raised
without the usual campaign or drive
methods, since the committee feels
that such a means of money raising in
this instance wiil he unnecessary so
!ong as their purpose is only to atford
"Americans an opportunity to pay tri-
bute in tasting form to the democratic
ideals of another American who served
his country and the worid, and who
achieved greatly and suffered greatly."

This year we are going to have a
i bigger and better Thresher than ever
before. The editor and business man-
ager and their assistants are bending
every effort toward this end. Hut they !
must have your help. The Thresher:
is your paper, it is the voice of the
student body and we should ali feel
justiy proud in supporting it. The
cost of printing and deiivering this
paper to you is borne targeiy by the
merchants and business men of Hous-
ton who advertise. Were it not for
them, the cost of the paper to each stu-
dent would be about tri]de what it now
!is. From this it is evident that the
S firms advertising in The Thresher
j have the interest of the student body
j at heart and are backing Rice. There-}
fore, it is the duty of every student to'
:C0-0!)erate as much as possible with
< these business 'nouses when buying
' merchandise.

The next time that you enter a store
to buy something, ask yourself before
you make the purchase this question:
is this firm a Hice backer'.' Do they
advertise in The Thresher? If they do
not co-operate with the students of
Hice, then go to some other firm that
does, and is a Hice booster.
You can not lose by this policy, for
all of the stores advertising in The
Thresher are among the very best
business houses in Houston, and they
dea) only iu reliable goods at reason-
able prices.
Get the habit, feilows. Buy it in
Houston from a Rice booster.
