eye,
And ear of seeming apathy,
By whom the Soul of Life, unheeded,
passes,

Pity descends upon thee, bearing thee
succor,
For thou hast spurned fair poesy!
Cold stone has thrice thy feeling,
warmth and passion,
In ecstasy all life responds to Love's
swift pain

English reviews of Percy Marks'
novel of American college life, "The
Plastic Age," have expressed delight
that the students in the schools of
that country do not suffer from the
dissipation that Marks' novel insinu-
ates exists over here.
They like even less the too clever
methods of the political bosses who
are the demiurges of American col-
leges.

Gabriel D'Annunzio has just pub-
lished the first of three volumes of
notes which have been gathered from
those which he had written during his
literary life.
The volume is dedicated to Eleonora
Duse, his mistress, and is said to be
largely autobiographical.
The title is "II Venturio senza Ven-
tura."

"The Short Story Story's Mutations,"
by Frances Newman, is a book recently
published by B. W. Huebsch, New
York.
Miss Newman's thesis is quite orig-
inal in that she maintains that the
biololical theory of mutation can be
applied to the evolution of the short
story.
Perhaps J. Frank Norris would be
interested in hearing about this book.
It will be reviewed in the next issue
of this page.

Ben Hecht, who suffered last year
from the suppression of his powerful
iconoclastic novel, "Fantazius Mal-
lare," has completed the sequel of thi$
bookf which will be published by Pas-
cal Covicee, Chicago.
The book is entitled "The Kingdom
if Evil" and relates the further ad-
ventures in mental torture suffered
by Mallare.

France has been shocked! Bernard
Shaw is guilty! His hew play, "Saint
Joan," is considered sacriligious to the
legend of France's patron saint.
She calls the king "Charlie," and
"thee's" and "thou's" him entirely too
much for her legendary dignity and
holiness, according to the Revue de
Deux Mondes.

The American Mercury, Mencken's
periodical of idealism, will contain an

on "Why Go to College?" *
There should be much meat in this
article for the college epicurians.
The chemistry of post-Volsteadean

made to secure a local chapter of the
national honorary architectural fra-
ternity.

year are C. A, Johnson, president; Ed
Arrants,, vise-president; and O. L.
Hairstun, secretary-treasurer.
