mission to slitf this, song and the
words I wrote. Of course, it will
be necessary, to Ket the words be-
fore the student bculy. I would sug-
gest that they be printed in the
Thresher, the football programs, and
any other suitable publication. They
mitrht also be posted on . the bulle-
tin board on mimeographed copies
could be run off and distributed in
the stands at the football aaiiu-s. I
feel sure the spectators miyht like to
join in on this spirited music. Please
note, however, that whenever the
words are, printed, it must be men-
tioned that they iirc to be sunt? to
the tune of the Beer Barrel Polka.
This latter fact is most important,
I think, so that the publishers; will
not take offense.
I hope that you have been able
to contact Retd by this time and that
this brain-child of mine is about
ready to bear fruit.
Sincerely yours,
Barry W. Talbot
(Note: The words to the pep song
mentioned in the above letter of I,ar>
ry W. Talbot, Rice graduate of 1932
and who is now connected with the
Reconstruction Finance Corporation,
are printed here below.)
Thunder To Victory
Take the field, Rice!
Never yield, Rice!
Hoist '.your banners high in conquest!
You're the titan of the Southwest,
Where the legions are the strongest!
With your courage ever soaring
You will have no trouble Scoring
When you Start tb fight for
The Blue and Gray of Rice!
Now's the time to start your big
parade —
To begin your touchdown cavalcade,!
Just crack right through their line
and then
Keep marching dawn the stripes to
win!
When the smoke of battle rolls aside,
May your followers ding out with
pride
That their Riee Owls have won today
Another game for Blue and Gray!
Chorus
Thunder to vict'ryl
Cheer 'til the Heavens resound!
Rice Owls, triumphant.
Can never, will ne'er, be downed!
Unleash your lightning--
Strike on and blast on tu score!
Rice's honor and her glory
Stand forevermore!
♦ These words, by Barry W. Talbot.,.
to be sung to. the tune of "Beeri
Barrel polka."
