said Thursday afternoon that con-
ference officials had advised him of
the cancellation of preliminaries in
all running events except the 440-
yard dash. Trial heats for the 100 and
22$ are to be canceled because of lack
of entrants.
Hall vs. Ilarefield
Sprinters and distance men from
the University of Texas who have
dominated outdoor events so far this
season are heavily favored to retain
the title they Crested from the Owls
last May. Feature of the meet Sat-
urday will be the competition between
Harold Hall and Captain Morris "Red"
Barefield of Texas in the'quarter-mile.
Hall, credited with a 47.7 perform-
ance this season at Baton Rouge, that
was three-tenths under Sanders' con-
ference; mark set in .1939, defeated
the Longborn ace here four weeks
ago in a stretch drive. Captain Joey
Blagg of the Owls, winner over con-
ference i champion Fred Kamsdell of
Texas here April lit in a 220 test, is
expected to repeat over Clyde Little-
field's furlong specialist.
Longhorn Sprinters Favored
Brunson indicated Thursday that
Blagg would start both the 100 and
220 dashes at Austin Saturday, but
named no running mate for the Owl
captain: in either, event. There is a
possibility that Harold Hall may at-
tempt the 220, in which he has con-
sistently paced Blagg. Texas century
artisfs, including the sensational
Carleton Terry, Lonnie Hill, and
Ramsdeli, are top-heavy favorites for
three places in the hundred. A mus-
