The Giru' Club
By Joan Logan
Visiting Houston and Dado Burn-
ham about two weeks ago was Hen-
ry Coffman—on his way to Pensa-
cola or Corpus Christi. Henry is a
cadet in the Naval Air Corps. Be-
fore his transfer he trained at Ath-
ens Pre-Flight School and the St.
Louis E-Base. While in Houston, he
perched ,a big diamond on the third
finger, left-hand, of Dado. Nice work,
Henry.
Tommy Smith (AC TW Smith—
38420778, AAFPS (P) Bks. 8325,
Gr. W. Sq. 304, Wins 2, FAACC,
San Antonio, Texas) has been classi-
fied as a pilot at basic training
school at San Antonio. He made the
unfortunate mistake of listing a
fracture from an accident eight
years ago on ap application—and
so has been having quite a time
proving that it was not a concussion
—but now everything is all right and
Tommy is still in the Air Corps-
Good luck!
Woody Woodson (C. E. Woodson,
Ph. M. 2C, Laboratory Naval Hospi-
tal, Great Lakes, Illinois) has been
doing 'bacteriological work and work
with the blood 'bank. When he has
all night watch, he sleeps on the
table in the blood bank. Shhh, don't
tell his C.O. In August, he was sent
to La hey Clinic in Boston for some
advanced lab work. He likes his work
all right, but hankers after active
duty.
Ensign Tommy Stovall arrived in
ye ole home town last Wednesday
after his graduation from Columbia
University. At the final review, he
wrangled a post as the Captain's
orderly, and thinks he might have
been snapped in some newsreels be-
fore the girl from Minnesota—also
on the reviewing stand—handed him
her bouquet (a mountain of roses)
to stand behind. Camouflage, En-
sign ? After a gay 23-day leave, he
leaves for P.T. duty. Good luck!
Jack Morton (ART 3rd class, Rec.
Co., Bks. 5, NATTS, Ward Island,
Corpus Christi, Texas) is working as
a radio technician Mid fighting the
the crowds on the buses to get to
Houston or Austin every week-end.
"Curley" Lewis is now a man—he
soloed over at Bruce Field in Bal-
linger the other day. He claims that
it was the "greatest momento" in
his life and after hearing of his
several narrow escapes, I shouldn't
wonder. But now he can wear gog
gles and wings on his hat. Congrat-
ulations, Curley!
Among other week-end visitors,
were Oscar Cadwallader, who's in
induction center and "a corporal. Also
seen with Rosemary Glavianna at
a Mexican restaurant and elsewhere
was Don Stephens—now an ensign.
The snappy cartoon pictured with
this week's column is none other
than Bobby Baldwin, with his claws
bared. He drew it himself—of him-
self. The explanation Bobby gives in
a letter to his father is:
"Dear Pa:
The lack of wine, women, and song
does something to one over here."

The election committee of the Stu-
dent Council reported that the vot-
ing was rather heavy with 249 votes
being cast. However, this by no
means constitutes the entire strength
of the freshman class.

Dear "Mademoiselles,"
It is a feeling of loneliness which
drives me to write this letter; but
before I get ahead of myself, let me
explain the situation.
Quite a few of my friends and my-
self who are here at A & M know
not a soul in the entire state of Tex-
as. We are from different and dis-
tant parts of the country and have
been thrown together in ASTP
against most of our dreams of get-
ting near our homes.
I hesitate to ask if there is a man-
power shortage at Rice. I only ask
this because there is a definite fe-
male shortage here in Aggieland.
True, many of the fellows have girl
friends at home, but there are many
of us who do not. Now, alas, to the
point—what I and my friends are
wondering is—is it possible that we
could get fixed up on some nice at-
tractive dates should we come into
Houston on Saturday night? We un-
fortunately do not get off on Satur-
day afternoon until 5 p.m. and can't
get to Houston until about 9:30 p.m.
We would really appreciate it if
you would answer the letter.
I might prey upon your sympatljy
and say that we are really a very
nice bunch of boys just going to
waste up here—studying, studying,
and studying.
Incidentally, four of us will be
coming in this Saturday night. Do
answer with details! Soonl -
Sincerely,
- Pffc. Len Mjjchelson
