The Rice track and field team found the going: rough for
the second straight week as they finished third behind Texas
A&M and Texas in a triangular meet here last Saturday. The
Aggiesi amassed 104% points to 531/4 for the Longhorns and

Shackled by the lack of depth, the
Owl point-winners were few and far
between. There were several repeat
performances on the previous week's
meet, including a second in the two
mile run by Henry Winston. Wins-
ton fought off a stretch sprint by
Aggie Charles Gabriel to account
for the best Owl performance.
Ronnie Berger gained third place
gie weight man, turned in two stel-
lar performances. The lad who feels
as much at home with a football in
his hands as he does with a shot
or discus, tossed the shot 64 feet 6
inches, just 2% inches short of the
conference record he set last year.
Also of interest was the fine time
of 0:41.4 turned in by the Steer
sprint relay team. It was 3/10 of a
honors in the shot put with a 45 second off the record set by a Long-
foot heave while Frank Delferes
took third in the javelin, hurling it
164 feet 9 inches.
Pat Moore vaulted 12 feet for the
number four spot in this event.
Other Rice performers earning
fourth place credit were Billy Ed
Daniels in the 440, George Donald-
son with the discus, James Beavers
in th ebroad jump, and Carl John-
son in the 220 yard dash.

In another triangular meet, this
one held in Dallas the past Friday,
SMU had an easier time of it than
A&M, if this were possible, in de-
feating TCU and Baylor. The final
point tally proved the Mustangs to
be victorious with a total of 115 2/5
markers to 35 1/5 for Baylor and
19 2/5 for the Frogs.
Standouts in this meet were SM

Rees, to win.
Real talent is abundant in the volleyball tournameajt.
Everyone thinks they are going to win. After the first round,
