By DICK KARIG
With ten games under their belts, Coach Harold Stock-
bridge's charges have emerged as a much improved ball team
over last' year's squad. Faced by the slugging of Parke Davis,
Doyle Beard, and Dave Devine, plus the excellent hurling of
Walt Deakin, the Owls have tripped the opposition seven times.
Showing the greatest
improve-
ment have been Davis and Beard.
Both finished the season last year
with batting averages under .200,
but are currently batting .328 and
.371 respectively.
The big bat of team captain Beard
has provided the punch that the
Owls lacked last year. Aside from
having cracked out 3 homeruns, a
triple, and 3 doubles, the senior
shortstop has also driven 13 runs
across the plate.
Davis, Devine, and Beard are tied
for team leadership in the hits de-
partment with 13, while Davis has
the dubious honor of having been
set down on strikes the most, with
the same number. Devine has scored
18 runs to head that category and
soph Joe Wylie has been the flash
on the base paths, having pilfered
10 bases.
Pitcher Deakin has 4 victories to
his credit and has yet to be handed
a loss. The ace righthander has
been the mainstay of the staff, and
in the process has struck out 30 of
the opposition in 38 innings of mound
duty. Ins this same period he has
compiled an earned run average of
2.41.

Campus Interviews on Cigarette Tests
No. 39...THE FLYCATCHER
"THEY HAD ME
BACKED UP
TO THE WALL "
He's fast —he's smart —he covers ground —he's
a real varsity outfielder! The 'quick-trick' cigarette
mildness tests were almost too hot to handle, but
he didn't make an error. He realized that cigarette
mildness can't be judged in slam-bang fashion.
Millipns of smokers throughout America know, too,
there's a thorough way to judge cigarette mildness!
It's the sensible test...the 30-day Camel Mildness
Test, which simply asks you to try Camels on a
day-after-day, pack-after-pack basis. No snap
judgments! Once you've tried Camels for 30 days
in your "T-Zone" [T for Throat, T for Taste),
you'll see why...
After all the Mildness Tests...
