Owls Whip Texas A&l for Firtl
Time in Six Long Years; 9-2
Walker Deakin racked up his.first conference win last
Saturday, as the Rice baseballers defeated the Texas Aggies for
the first time in six years. Deakin was red hot, fanning 12,
while allowing two hits. Loser Mel Work of the Aggies was
touched up for 12 hits, many of which were bloopers that fell
just past the infield.

In the Aggie top of the first,
Hamilton and Ecrette went out, hut
Yale Lary was Kit by a pitched ball,,
and Yogi Candelari, the dapper lit-
tle Aggie third baseman, smashed
a long drive to deep left field, which
should have gone for a home run.
Candelari, however, neglected to
touch second base and was retired
for the third out, Lary scoring. Joe
Ecrette's single in the second inning
was the last Aggie hit of the day,
although the Farmers managed one
more run, that coming on Bill Goli-
bart's attempted pickoff in the
ninth. i
Rice won the game in the second
and third innings with a rash of
walks, base hits and Aggie blund-

the Owls sewed up the game in the
