——
Day That Will Live
In Infamy at SMU
BY MARGIE WISE
AT S.M.U
It all happened during the an-
nual Federal inspection of the
SMU AFROTC. The inspection
was being conducted by some of
the nation's top brass. Amid this
scene of splendid military pre-
cision came a tiny foreign made
car wheeling toward the flyboys.
On top of the car was a gigantic
Japanese flag. The car riders
-blasted out with a bugle call in
reply to one that had just come
from the cadet band, and all
sorts of wired shouts (probably
no>t Japanese) came from the sub-
versive car as it pulled off into
infamy.
AT TULANE . . .
Yc Olde College Campus is
changing: This week a $2,270,000
loan was granted to Tulane Uni-
versity to be spent in construc-
tion of an eight-story apartment
building for married students.
The building would contain 168
apartments with such general
features as laundry, utility
rooms, and a children's playroom.
AT SANTA CLARA . . .
In addition to the usual sweat,
teaj-s, and toil of the academic
grind blood was also given this
week at Santa Clara University.
One of the projects of a service
organization on the campus is a
Red Cross blood drive. It seems
to have been a great success as
the drive netted 185 pints of
blood, some donors being re-
jected. Since the school has only

ACTION Showing
At U. of H. May 8
The American Council To Im-
prove Our Neighborhoods, whose
initials spell ACTION, will give
a presentation at the Cullen Au-
ditorium, University of Houston,
May 8 at 8 P.M.
This presentation will describe
a serious condition in our cities
today—blight—the downgrading
and decay of business centers and
■residential neighborhoods, how
it happens and how it affects
the citizen. Many citizens know
something about this problem,
but very few are fully aware of
the extent of the threat or its
importance to them.
This presentation is not "a mo-
tion picture," but is rather a
spectacular series of episodes
narrated by a lecturer who makes
use of panoramic still photogra-
phy to illustrate some of the
points, Visftavision-size emotion
picture footage for others, and
even color animation to demon-
strate one of the sequences.
The show will be a one-and-a-
half hour presentation which will
be narrated in person by David
Keith Hardy, a lecturer of world-
wide renown. Mr. Hardy will tell
the story, the problems of Amer-
ican cities, and demonstrate gra-
phically some of the solutions to
.these problems,
This presentation is sponsored
by the Houston Chamber of Com-
merce in cooperation with sev-
eral other groups, one of which
is The Rice Institute Department
of Architecture.
BOUND THRESHERS

down payment in the registra-
tion line in September may
pay the balance any afternoon
between now and the end of
dead week in the Thresher of-
fice.
There will be no cardboard
