Senate Open
To New Ideas
To the Student 'Association,
I would like to take this opportunity
to remind the upperclassmen and ac-
quaint the freshmen with the fact that
this coming year will be the first full
year of operation for Rice's new form of
student government. The maim reasons
for altering the old system were to
eliminate ambiguities in the structure of
the student government and provide bet-
ter representation of the Rice student body. There is
now a direct link between the college governments and
the central governing body, the Student Senate. This
link should help provide an efficient and smooth func-
tioning student government.
We of the first Student Senate want to start out
on the right foot and do the best job possible. To do
this, we must have the help of the student body. Our
meetings, which are every Wednesday night at 7 o'clock,
are open to the students. If you can not come to the
meeting, feel free to talk to a Senate member or take
your problem to your college government.
We welcome your ideas, for it is through them that
we are able to work for and represent the Rice student
body.
