pares to crown Sally Smyzer as
Capt. O. O. Dean announces the
Queen at the Navy Ball. Bob
Hudspeth, Sally's escort offers
moral support.
Sally Smyser was crowned
Queen of the Seven Seas at the
Navy Ball last Saturday night.
The princesses, who represent
each of the seven "Ports of Call"
were Ann Buie, from Gilmer High
School; Maxine McCrary, Pat
Cansler, and Patti Herndon, all
from the U. of H.; and Suzy
Rhodes, Sue Shepherd, and Mari-
etta Morris from Rice.
The queen and her court were
elected by the NROTC from girls
nominated by the members. Cap-
tain O. O. Dean announced the
winner and then danced a spot-
light dance with her.
The dance, held this year at
the Glenhaven Country Club is an
annual affair sponsoi-ed by the
Sextant. A banquet for senior
members preeeeded the Ball.

Fate of Weekend

out to sample opinions of juniors
about having Junior Weekend.
Other possibilities that are being
considered include a junior pic-
nic, junior day, etc. Plans will
be made as a result of the sug-
gestions received and the de-
termined climate of opinions.

don't ride the elevator of Jones
South, this important announce-
ment is being reprinted:
A representative from Prince's
Drive Inn's Inc. will be on cam-
pus Tuesday, March 15 at 4:30
o'clock to interview senior girls
for the position of carhop. High
scholastic standing is required.

Park. Clare Kollenberg and Gor-
don Grubbs, Caroline Dubuy and
Bill Gale, Helen Morgen, and Gee
Johnson were among the crowd.

the crowning of the Queen of the

ing place and there were more
people to see and talk to than
can be found on campus in a
week.

Friday night, Dr. Nicholas Ny-
aradi will speak in the Fondren
Lecture Lounge at 7:15 d'clock.
The PALS Burlesque will start
at 8:30 o'clock in Hamman Hall,
so both can be included in one
evening. Saturday night plans
may take in both the Burlesque
and the Freshman Dance, "Em-
barcadero."

Dr. Carey Croneis, provost of
the Rice Institute, and Dr. Har-
din Craig, Jr., Fondren Library
librarian, along with Richard W.
Lilliot, Jr., dean of the college
of architecture at the University
of Houston, will act as panel
moderators Saturday at a Hous-
ton-Tulane Conference in the
Shamrock-Hiltoh Hotel. {
THE EDUCATIONAL confer-
ence, one of eight to be presented
in Southern cities this year, is
designed to present the. latest
trends, ideas, and developments
in various fields of higher educa-
tion.
Dr. Fred R. Cagle, professor
of zoology and co-ordinator of re-
search at Tulane University, will
be principal speaker at the half-
day conference. His topic will be
"The 'Achievements' of Com-
munism in Asia."
Following Dr. Cagle's address,
six panel discussions will be
presented by leading Tulane
faculty members.
THESE WILL INCLUDE dis-
cussions of the causes and im-
pact of inflation, contemporary
Italian art, Shakespeare's "Oth-
ello," the effects and hazards of
radiation, the expansion prob-
lems of cities, and the fhture of
science and the liberal arts.
Immediately following the
panel sessions, Marjorie Law-
rence, former leading soprano
with the Metropolitan Opera
Company in New York, and now
professor of voice at Newcomb,
will speak on her life as a sing-
er.
