'On The Waterfront/Sunday P.M.;
Pre-Thanksgiving Fling In RMC
By PAT JONES
It's movie time again. Sunday
On the Waterfront—with Marlon
Brando — will be shown in the
RMC at 8:00 pm. Be sure to see
it!
Tuesday pm before the holi-
days started, everybody partied
in the basement. There were the
ever-present cookies and coffee
plus another imported (and, best
of all, free) jukebox. Although
the latter was inclined to play
only half a song before falling
into fits of coughing, etc., there
were many, many couples danc-
ing.

TINY MEMORY UNIT
GUIDES GIANT ROCKETS
INTO SPACE
On this tiny drum, only four and one-half inches in diameter,
is recorded all the significant data needed to direct a rocket
into space.
As the rocket blasts skyward, the electronic computer, which
includes this small memory unit, begins to monitor the flight.
The computer continually correlates data on flight progress
with data in the memory unit and makes course corrections
instantly.
The very small size and weight of this memory unit is an
achievement in itself. Yet other difficult problems had to be
overcome—shock, prolonged vibration and extremely high G
forces. Only by using new materials and design techniques
were these problems solved.
People with backgrounds in the sciences, engineering, and
liberal arts all contributed to the success of this project. Ideas
which create new products can come from anywhere at IBM.
From research, development, programming, manufacturing,
marketing.
If you would like a job where your ideas can be put to work in
interesting and important areas, then you should consider
the many opportunities at IBM. The IBM representative will
be interviewing on your campus. He will be glad to discuss
career openings at IBM. Your placement officer can make an
appointment. Or you may write, outlining background and
interests, to: Director of Technical Recruitment, Dept. 897,
IBM Corporation, 590 Madison Avenue, New York 22, N. Y.
You naturally have a better chance to grow with a growth company.

were more interested in the
cookie plate! Maybe we could do
this again right before the
Christmas holidays.
This might be a good time to
mention that all the current
stream of benevolence and bene-
fits pouring out of the RMC is
not the result of activities of lits,
the Film Society, the South Main
branch of the Avalon or the
SPCA. The Student Center Com-
mittee is working for the stu-
dents, and things will continue to
improve!
Movies are being planned for
next semester, more plans are in
the air for improving the base-
ment, and several parties are in
the offing.
The Christmas party has been
set for December 16 — music
will be furnished by people, not
records. Also the prize for the
football mural will be awarded.
At some earlier date there will
be a tree-decorating party, so
watch for signs!
Don't forget the movie!

Hanszen and Baker go inform-
al this weekend for a "Down
the Tubes" blast and a Roaring
Twenties gangster party, respec-
tively. Music for both will be
furnished by Leo Baxter com-
bos. Hanszen will pafty at the
Alabama Catering Service, while
BaRerites will be at S. P. Martel
auditorium.
The Baylor game in Waco en-
ticed a surprisingly large crowd
away from Thanksgiving turkey
on Saturday. Among the Rice
fans were Darden Lloyd, Pete
Huff, Kathi Kindt, Francis
Thompson, and John Jannis.
"Anything Goes," the EBLS
musical production, and the cast
party afterwards were both term-
ed smashing successes. Director
Linda Day, leads Roy Nolen,
Mark Winslow, Pat Shannon, Jay
Butler, and Barry Moore, and the
rest of the cast of thousands
partied till the wee hours at
Pat Shannon's home. •
This week we're putting out
an editor-less, Delaney-less paper.
It seems as though our leader
is gracing the Port Arthur hos-
pital with his History 110 papers,
Lowenheim books, old copies of
the Thresher, and infectious mon-
onucleosis.
