The most enjoyable 4t'u of
we ever spent, was at tins
two years ago. Now that
the population of Jaok county
has nearly doubled since that
time, we can if we Will, celebrate
the ooming fourth in a manner
creditable to ourselves.
Let us commence now to pre-
pare for it; no time to loose ;
if anything is done it should be
done quickly.
v Beavert informs us
that the assessment is about
completed, not more than twen-
ty-live persons in the county
yet to call on. He thinks
the county can show up
1,200 polls fiut of this he cannot
speak advisedly until the roils
are, made out; he knows howev
er that the taxable property in
the\coiinty is thousands of; dol-
lars greater than it was last
year. ^

—Accompanied by Mrs. Mc-
Connell Miss Conner, and
Masters Rush and Hairy,
Vafforded us pldhsure to spend
ilonday last in the country.
After a pleasant drive of five
miles, we called on Mrs. Thos.
Cheney and Mrs. Daro Hall.
Our next stopping place was at
the residenoe of Mr. and Mrs. T.
M« Hall, where we spent siveral
tours very pleasantly.
Prom here we s wandered
among innumerable country
roads',.gathered wild flo.wers by
the wayside, quenched our
thirst at Ham spring, next paid
our respects to Mrs. Wtn. Stra-
iner, Who we found happy and
contented in hel cottage under
the hill. #The day was a pleas-
ant one and we started off wit!f
the avowed intention to spend
)leasantlyt . and on our re-
turn home at supper time the
general verdict of the |>arty
was, "What a delightful time."
Deputy * Sheriff Graves
Johnson lmft here' about three
weeksago, looking after cattl-
thieves. We purposely re-
frained KrtMn saying anything
about it at the time, but now
that he has returned no harm
can come it; He has been in the
Territory, patiently wailing,
watching to catch a party of
men who have for some time
systematically been stealing

counties. We tire sorry to state
his labors were in vain.

the increased population and
the character of the people as
well. Among all Of the buildings
of this kind iu the county, none
can compare with the Carroll
Creek School house, which re-
Uects great credit on the liber-
ality and public spirit of the J
settlers iti that beautiful locality :
The building is 24 by 3(J feet, 1*2 {

ed and generally well finished,
and here, Sunday after Sunday,
as intelligent a people gather to
worship as can be found any ■
where. All the neighbors did
well in the matter of its erection
and quite a respectable sum was
contributed in Jncksboro, but to
John Hensley and J. T. Heuson
must be given special credit for
a house that will for long years

Within sight of the spot where
