GOOD THINGS.
Tbis woek comes Dr. Stone with
a ripe Tomato as big rouud as a
quart measure, aa fine as we ever
sat7 and a-good deal earlier.
And ori last Friday Mrs. Dr.
White sent to tbis office a bottlo of
Blackberry Cordial, just as good
'Hi ever was made. We passed it
round, we went through witliit and
felt better.
On Monday Mr. W. H. Kyie, the
most scientific farmer in the county
sent us a lot of tho finest, ripest'
peaches that anybody ever looked
at. And so early. We hear Mr.
Kyle has the finest orchard of all
kinds of fruits to be found any-
where. Let us all do like bim and
have plenty of early fruit.
Fike Hogs.—One of our printer
boys, Fowler BeLk, has caught the
Agricultural fever, and. invested
$15 in a fine Chester sow pig. It
certainly is a pretty thing. This
is what we like to see, tho young
men getting interested in improved
stock.
Among the young men who have
fine pigs fattening with the inten,
tion of contending for the Prize at
tho Fair wo might name J. L C.
White, T. Good, N. F. Belk, E. A.
Ferguson, G^H7. Norsworthy, Ad.
Adams, J E. Carlton and a lot of
others. It does us good to see
young men taking susli au interest
in the welfare of our county, we
look to ihem to do the work. Let
tho older men plan and the younger
ones will carry it out.
We also hear of sevcra' ladies
who are interesting themselvus in
line pigs, among the rest tho Mad-
am has a fine cross between the
Irish Grazier and Woburn. Mrs.
Carlton has a full blood Chester,
Mrs. .Rhymes a pair, cross between
tho large Cuiuea and Chester. Mrs
Forwood has several fine pigs, cross
between the Chester atffl .Berkshire.

best on them. We predict some

feelings and passions from the
Btand. Then whip oat a petition
and read something to them and alt
say put down my name, big, little,
old and young, then before sending
it off write out such a petition as
suits tbeir purposes best, attach all
the name* to it and send it off. The1
Journals of the Legislature show
that this was done in the case in
point for the removal of the county
seat to Burkevilte.
Now sir, Observer's true object
in writing as he did is yet hardlj
apparant to every one but 1o us it [
is plain. The Jasper court wat> then
soon to come off, he knew that
thero was a case to come off there
in which petitions gotten up simi-
larly to the one above would cut a
conspicuous figure and in which
this same "old unoffending citizen,
whose hairs arc frosted by many
winters of age and whose frame it
tottering on the brink of the grave"
had taken a very prominent part as,
he did in the couuty seat matter,
and it is plain that his object was
to cast all the odium ho could on
the Plaintiff in this cause. But his
statements were so far removed
from the truth that tbe community
in which they designed to have an
imuression, if they had one feeling
more than anothor, felt contcmpt
lor the weakness of tho effort and
the gross inconsistencies i/i it.
We care not for their "County
Seat" difficulties having tasted oncc
we are satisfied, in this matter we
ha vie been "a looker on in Venice"
but we learn that the latest dodge
to make Purkeville a County Seat
is to run it in the election soon to
come off lor County Site of the new
Parish just laid off in La., just op-
posite iu opposition to Burr's Fer-
ry.
But we must say adieu for the
present, we know not who your
correspotident Observer is aud care
less. We have little taste for such
discussions and would like much
better to write of the prosperity of
our County, her fine prospect for
crops aud the prospect of the tide
ol emigration setting towards our
couuty this tall, and many other
things that would be of general it>
lerest to your many readers but will
only fay again adieu.
Dread naught.
Ladies, at L. C. White's you
will find a lot of the finest^- What
you call thein—cho. JVo. eliem. No
that aint it either. Oh, doggone it
we dout know what you call th*m,
shirts we believe. Any -rbow they
are mighty fine, we advise to call
aud examine them.
The above is-tho composition of
our Devil, so doc l lay the blame
on us.
