Mr. Roosevelt did not reveal the
name of the man he will eho<w<* t<>
direct the selective service system.
He said that about 36,000 negroe
will be among the first 400.000 men
called.
He also announced that three ne-
gro national guard i-vgiment- "soon"
will be called for one >*ar of activ-
traini ng
The announcement 4> <> revealed
that the civil aeronautics authoritv
"is making a start in the develop,
ment of colored personnel for the
aviation service."
These two guard groups are among
the '-sti mated 305,000 guardsmen
and army reservists who will b
.-ubject to call to the colors under the
bill. A third group of about Gfi.000
is expected to .«* called about Nov.
la and another 40,000 about Decem-
ber 1.
It wa, r< ported Monday that all
married men living with their u:v<-

scription during, at least, the first
draft of 400.00(i compulsory military
services trainees.
Under -eW*etivi service regulations
the president will put in force, ol-

their wives.
The regulation will be ubject to
change at any time, however.
Since the great majority of ma

THE METHODIST CHURCH
On Wednesday evening, September
25, at 7:30 P. M. v\t. shall begin at
The Methodist Church an eleven day
meeting under the direction of the
pastor with Chaplain A. F. Vaughn
. f the United States Army bringing
the messages twice daily. The morn-
ing services will b« at lit A. M. and
each evening we shall begin at 7:30
until further notice. Chaplain Vaughn
eomes with only one desire, that, of
being of service to us in these try-
ing days. He is an unusually good
speaker and has a pleasing personal-
ity. We invite everyone that has the
opportunity to come and hoar him.
He will do u.s all good.
Sunday moning, September 22. the
pastor will speak on "Excuses." Think
of every excuse you have ever used
for not being at Church. Look that,
excuse over carefully and see if it is
really worth while to use it again.
Some peoph have good reasons for
not being at Church but a reason is
not an excuse. Most excuses are iid-
iculous; look at yours and see if that
is twit true.
The Sunday School will meet at
51:45 A. M. Is your excuse for being
late really a teason or is it also a
ridiculous exruse? When you are lal.
you are not ta'itig fair to those that
are on time; those that hav. worked
hard to have a program - eadv for
you. You come straggling in and in-
terrupt the program <>r the < la— and
the teacher or the leader has to go
over a lot of what has been done just
for your in n fit. Is that fair? < >r a e
you privileged that such must l e
done? Let's be on time.
The evening service will begin at
7:3n. The pastor will speak on "Pre.
pa red 11* -s-." Hear this message ft
will l>< last one In-fore the meeting-
