THE LINES ARE BUSY
BREWERY BOTTLING
ROOM SCENE OF
CEASELESS ACTIVITY
"The lines are busy" at
the Pearl Brewery in San
Antonio, wh'jre huge bottling
machinery o$ the most mod-
ern type works with the in-
finite precision of a trunk line
telephone system to wrap
Pearl Beer up for market.
Almost human in ingenuity
are the great rotary mechan-
isms which carry the empty
bottles through five huge
compartments, where they
are thoroughly sterilized at a
temperature of 170 degrees
Fahrenheit, and on out to the
conveyor belts which rush
them through automatic fill-
ing, capping and labeling
machines at the rate of 450
bottles per minute.
Although no bottle is
touched by human hands,
each is thoroughly inspected
by exports to insure its per-
fect condition before it leaves
the brewery. As is the case
in every step of the brewing
of Pearl Beer, no cost or
pains are spared, here, to as-
sure the fine flavor and main-
tain the high quality of this
famous Texas beer, which
has been brewed continu-
ously since 188G, and which
has been a favorite among
three generations of taste-
wise Texans.

OAK HILL NEWS
By MRS. EDGAR OWEN
OAK HILL, March 2—Two months
lvavo gone! We cant' seem to realize
how swiftly time is flying in this
New Year—'42.
A light rain fell here Sunday
morning. Grass is beginning to come
lip ani | though its been cold all week,
we notice spring signs in the air. The
mocking birds are singing, plum tree*
blooming, and ground is getting
ready to bring forth plants. 1 trode
over t > McDade Monday and only saw
one plot of ground had been plow-
ed, such a spirit of unrest prevails
here, farmers are slow to start.
A few days ago 1 was in tow,n,
walked down what had been old fam
iliar streets where I knew every
one, but now, many new faces weoe
seen, and many, yes many, new signs
>ver the doors of buildings, which
the camp where boys will be trained,
all of this to me is heartbreaking.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Brown 'and
Edgar Owen were in Elgin Saturday
evening getting 'the weeks supply of
groceries, and remained for the show.
Mr. and Mrs. Harroll Pannell, of
Corpus Christi, Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Owen, Austin, were recent visitors
with relatives here.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Creel, Elgin
visited their parents Sunday, Febru-
ary 22nd.
On February 22, Mr. and Mrs. Ho-
ward Fleming had as visitors their
children, Curtis Fleming and family,
Elgin, Ross Fleming and family of
Austin. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wat-
son and sons of laBstrop.
Mrs. Ella Fleming called to see
the writer Monday atternoon. Sh?
states her daughters, Mrs. Andy
Knowles and Miss Ellawene Fleming
are both employed as graduate nur-
ses in a Victoria hospital.
Miss Betty Joe oBatwrigbt came
to see Edgar and me Sunday after-
noon. We always enjoy her visits.
Mr. Gordon Wolf, of Mt. Pleasant
called by to see us Friday afternoor..
Mr. Wolf is emnloyed aft the army
camp.
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Powell and lit-
tle nephew, Billie Barnes, visited us
Sunday afternoon. They are some of
our best friends, and are always wel-
come visitors.
Many folks think they can drive
down and visit the camp, but they
have a surprise for the guard gently,
but firmly turns them back.
We have not come in contact with
many folks so news is scarce.
