FHA HOOSE
Money appropriated recently by Congress makes possible the
construction of houses, under new government regulations, to
rent to defense workers and army officers.
If you have one or more lots available, help your country in
this emergency by supplying a home for defense workers or
army personnel, and help Bastrop by giving these people
comfortable residences so that they will make Bastrop their
home.

Mrs. Mary Long,
Bastrop, Texas,
Dear Mother,
Just a note to say "hello" and to
let you know that I am fine. Its
wonderful to he on land again. The
country is indescribeably beautiful,
but the climate is abomnible. The food
and housing is very good. 1 have met
everyone in the Corps I have ever
known, and it has been swell to see
them again.
We are still putting very good days
work, hut its not bad. We stay wet
ali day either from the heat or rain.
I hav* never seen as much rain in my
life. This is supposed to be the dry
season, but we are lucky if we get
off with one hard rain each day.
You can't put a price on expe-
rience, loyalty, the sincere desire
lo SERVE. Only through years of
learning, working, and SERVING
do our employes make themselves
of greater value to our customers.
We realize this, and it is one idea
which our Company stresses nl-
ways, to every employe, new or
old, of the United Gas orgamza*
lion. We constantly point out to
our employes that hy this attitude
only ran they measure true public
service. What docs it means to
you? It means that hack of the
reliable supply of low-cost Gas
which you enjoy are trained and
skilled people, whose sole job is
to provide for you and
your family the better
things of life which
good Gas service makes
possible.
1 passed a native hut, and happen-
ed to see their method of cooking
"ham!" You must try it. They strang-
led the pig, and without doing anoth-
er thing to it, put it on the coals, let
it. cook until they smelled the flesh
burning, then took it off and began
to eat. They didn't gut it or any.
thing.
The flies and mosquitoes are ter-
rible. 1 bought a fibre pad which is
made by the natives. They are ideal
to sleep on in this hot climate. Be
sure to remember me to everyone at
