SOPH REPORT
This has indeed been a busy
week-end. beginning with Thurs-
day. Nearly all of Bastrop was in
Austin at one-act play rehearsal
or the Power Show and Friday
was just as busy. Between the
track meet and one-ai. play con-
test everyone found something to
do.
Friday night several couples
were seen around. Joy and A. J.,
and Shirley and Schaefer helped
to represent the Sophomore class.
Jean and Lena Ruth were seen
with their respective dates, Henry
and Danny.
Saturday nit'ht ajrain brought
out the lad.-- and their lassies. A
majority of them were dates same
as Friday night. Some changes
were: Shirley with Billy (glad to
sec you back in circulation, Billy),
and Blanche fli'.d Jam<. Tit worth.
Sunday several sophomores were
seen out of town. Shirley and
Joy went to Seguin to the golf
tournament, but of course they
didn't play. Jean and Lena Ruth
went fishinjr near Dale and we
heard they had a hit of "begin-
ner's luck." Everyone reported a
good time and a good .-unburn.
Elroy and Eugene had a tough
time at Betty Williams party Sat-
urday night. We al.-o hear R. C.
was there. Betty and her cousin
were the only girls there.
Joanne and Bux were out nearly
every night the past week. Ain't
love grand ?
School is nearly over, and soon
the halls will ring with "Dear
Bastrop High—". and we sophs
will be Juniors, and summer will
be here, and I'd better stop 'cause
my thinking machine is running
down, so until next week—"Au
Revoir." (That's French.)
went to Seguin with 'Feasor Sun-
day morning for the golf tourna-
ment. They reported a good time
too.
On Wednesday evening, May i>,
Roy Johnson entertained the rest
of the seniors with a barbecue at
his home. The menu consisted of
barbecued beef with sauce, potato
salad, olives, pickles, cokes, ice
cream, and chocolate cake.
Music was furnished by the rec-
ords from his phonograph. Later
we all went to see "To Have and
Have Not". The food was wonder-
ful, and everyone enjoyed the
movie too.
Friday afternoon the seniors had
a swimming party and picnic in
the State Park. We had a variety
of sandwiches, cokes, olives,
pickles, potato chips, and cookies at
the shelter house. Everyone had
lots of fun!
Some of the exes (Johnny, Pat-
sy, Margie, Don, and Charles Rossi
were home for the weekend. Bet-
ty Walker of Southwestern, Bob-
bie Bailey, Vanita Van Landing-
ham. Mary .lane Evans all of Tex-
as I'., and Tom Daniel of A & M
| were guests of Patsy, Margie and
1 Don.
Betty Jean Harris and Betty
Shaw were here from Houston.
Betty Jean, Betty, and Shirley
went to Prokop's for the night.
Friday night Mrs. Wright and
Mrs. Parks (Fish sponsors) chap-
eroned a Fish party here in the
BHS gym. They had tuna fish
sandwiches, olives, potato chips,
and cokes as refreshments. It was
a very nice affair, and everyone
enjoyed it.
Saturday Margie Haynie enter-
tained seventeen girls with a
slumber party in honor of the 4T
graduates—Dot. Linelle, Betty, and
Evelyn. Everyone went to the Re-
fectory; and later the girls and
their dates came to the guest cab-
in where they helped themselves
CAMPUS KEYHOLE
I smell vacation drawing near!
Wonderful, wonderful thought.
You'll never know how I've work-
ed at this job. I'm resigning as of
tomorrow, and heaven help my
poor, innocent, unsuspecting suc-
cessor.
This must have been Old Home
Week; I've never seen so many
people.
Pat has been wandering around
in a roxy haze speaking to peo-
ple. I nearly passed out, until I
found that B. J. Harris had been
here. Prokop and Betty Jean's i
girl friend were doing alright, too. i
Margie Haynie's party at the
! Guest Cabin Saturday night prov-
jed to be one of the year's best!
' successes. I gather that her pals
from the University were swell
to a variety of spreads, wheat
wafers, Ritz wafers, olives, pota
to chips, cokes, anil cookies. Of
course, much sleep was enjoyed by
none. Everyone inst had loads of
fun!

gals. Anyhow Rob and Danny
seemed to think so. Patsy was
home, too, and brought a friend
for Hopper. Don brought Tommy
Daniels here for Bonnie, while the
rest of the girls sat and drooled.
(Jinny and Adell, Nellie and
Spud, Henry and Leaky Roof,
Jeanne and Cayton, Jake and Bet-
ty, John and Blanche. Billy and
Shirley were the Saturday night
home-town couples I saw at the
Refectory.
The Senior picnic Friday night
was big fun. Or at least it looked
like fun from where I was sit-
ing—in my tree house at the Big
Picnic Units. Evelyn and Doyle,
Bonnie and Henry, Danny and
Leane were the only couples I saw.
hast Wednesday Roy's barbe-
cue was reported swell and all the
girls are beginning to cultivate
that Lauren Baeall look. Dates
were Bonnie and Rob, Skeeter and
Janis, Evelyn and Doyle, Bux and
Charline <!!> Jeanne and Adell.
Monday night is Moley's barbe-
cue, Tuesday is the One Act Play
picnic, Wednesday i* Skee tor's
party, Thursday Spud's, Friday the
Baptist Banquet. Saturday a Coke
party, Tuesday morning the Sun-
ns,. I>reakfast -the Seniors ought
to be plenty busy.
Finally we can say that school
is out, and though a great many
of us are glad, we will always
remember the good times we had
in the school year '44-'45—the vic-
torious football season with the
swell dances afterward, the Drum
and Bugle Corps Banquet and the
Football Banquet, the basketball
season and all its good times; and
let's not forget the track meet
at Giddings, and Regional Meet,
State Meet, and this could go on
forever. Now that we think about
it, life would be dull without
school.
For the present gossip we find
these Sophomores still going
steady or pretty steady. Our prize
couple—Joy and A. J.; Joanne and
Buz, Lena Ruth and Danny, and I
Jean and Henry. Besides these we
find these people making the
rounds; Shirley, Blanche, Billy, and
Schaefer. There is a couple I'd
like to say something about. That's
'Sara Lee and John Willems. Nev-
er can tell what will happen. May-
be next year we'll know.
A lot will happen this coming
week, and I can't tell you about
it- Tuesday the Dramatic Club is
having a picnic and from reports
so far, it should be a dilly! The
4F's, a new club consisting of
Joanne, Shirley, Jean, and Joy,
are giving the Senior girls a "coke"
party Tuesday morning, the 22nd.
Blanche and the three freshmen
girls, Jane T., Jane A., and Lula
Jo are also giving a "coke" party.
That's all for this year. And
closing we want to wish the Sen-
iors "the best of luck and happi-
ness in the years to come".
So long, eva body!

Thursday and Friday the one-
act play cast and the other mem-

BERLIN IS ONLY A WHISTLE STOP
Yeah, that was Berlin we just passed.
Seemed like we'd never get there, didn't it? An 1 nc.v
that we made it, anybody feel like a stopover? Liitie
celebration or something like that?
Forget it, friend. This is a through train we're on.
And before we get to where we're going, Berlin will seem
like a whistle stop. A dot on the map, once removed.
Tokyo's our destination. Half a world and billions of
bucks away and one thing if sure! If you're going our
way, you pay your own freight.
That means you keep on buying more and more bonds
