you remember the little boy Henry
that the Otts brought from String
Prairie a few years ago when they
came in and took over the Bridge
Cafe. Well, 1 saw his wife and
three children less than a week
ago.

PLANS DISCUSSED
FOR CAMP SWIFT
Citizens of Bastrop County, as-
sembled Frida^ morning in a n-ass
meeting at the Courthouse in Bas-
trop, laid plans which may irflu-
! once the final disposition of Camp
Swift, recently declared surplus
property.
Proposed purchase of the former
Army base has been widely dis-
cussed. and a committee was named
to steer plans for the project. On
the committee are Mayor Will
Rogers of Bastrop, Grover Shade
of Smithville, Ott Arbuckle of El-
inn and Judge J. J. Sapp of
Bastrop.
A resolution was passed at the
meeting opposing the purchase of
Camp Swift by any individual,
group or corporation, until all
public and private schools, espt*.

is seeking accommodations for
1,000 students, obtain the build-
ings they require, and all former
landowners have the opportunity
to buy back their original pro-
perty.

All students assembled in the

Monday morning, when the Rev
Paul Vercher, pastor of the Ftt-l
Baptist Church, delivered an in-
spirational talk. The group g v„
the 1*1 edge of Allegiance to the
I* lag and sanK America. The Rev.
J W. Griffin, pastor of the First
Methodist Church, gave the in-
vocation and the benediction.
The entire school bnliding has
been repainted ami its interior is
just like new. Repairs have been
made in the piaster of the walls,
and a new roof has been put on
the gymnasium Teachers old desk-
havc been replaced with new one*,
and similar replacement of other
old funiture has !>een made. In
order to protect the building as
much as possible, it will remain
locked until 8:30 in the morning
and it will l e locked at 4:30 in the
afternoon. Students may not enter
the building before 8:30 in the
mornings, and must be out by
t:!i() in the afternoon.
Parents are cordially invited to
drop in and see the building, ano
to cooperate with the teachers
m teaching the students to take
care of the building and th
equipment.

it's Goode. who was an all-con-

around Kyle field.
After a so-so season in 1946,
Goode left school for merchant
marine duty, returning this fall
deeply tanned and hefting 210
pounds of muscle. Although rated
no better than third-string at the
start of practice—for he had miss,
ed spring drills—Goode quickly
convinced Head Coach Homer Nor-
ton that he is the top wingback
on the club, and he ranks ns a
starter today.
Both Prokop and Hallmark are
rated just behind that great pair
to choose the winners and $5,000
was given away in prizes, ac-
cording to Charles Lautem, man-
ager of the Tower Theatre. Miss
Sturges received a prize of
