PROCLAMATION
BY THE GOVERNOR
OF THE STATE OF TEXAS
To All To Whom Theae Presents
Shall Come:
It is my solemn duty to ac-
quaint the people of Texas with
a grim prediction of traffic deaths
and injuries during the coming
Christmas holiday season.
The Texas Department of Public
Safety predicts that 85 persons
will be killer) and 2,500 injured in
accidents on our streets and high-
ways in the ten days from Decem-
ber 2-t through January 1.
Thirty death.- and nearly nine
hundred injuries are expected in
the two day> immediately before
Christmas December 12.5 and 24.
These tragedies are not inevit-
able. They can be prevented by a
genuine < xercise of Christian fel-
low-hip; of courtesy and consider
at ion for the other fellow. Texans,
practicing good will to men, can
give to these potential traffic vic-
tims the greatest gift of all —
the gift of LIFK itself!
.NOW, THKKFFORK.I, Beau ford
H. Jester, Ciovernor of the State
of Texas, <io hereby urjfe t*ach
citizen to impose upon himself a
discipline and a sense of personal
responsibility so that neither his
driving or walking will lead to
the death or injury of himself or
a fellow man. I call upon the
Tex a- Safety Association to co-
ordinate public support effort with
the official .safety work of the
Texas Department of Public Safe-
ty, the State Highway Depart-
ment, the State Department of
Education, and other official agen-
cie- hriNiriK traffic responsibilities.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF,
I have hereunto signed my
name officially and caused the
seal of State to be affixed
hereto at Austin, this the 8th
dav of December, A. I).. 1 t 4K.

MOTHER NATURE
Nature wages a continuous h.ittle against metal structures
buried underground. Chemicals and electric currents in the
soil tend to break the metal down into rust. Rust spots on nat-
ural gas pipe lines soon become leaks, resulting in lost gas.
lowered pressures or interruption of service. All of this
can be minimized or prevented with "cathodic protection"
or other proper corrosion control.
With over 0,000 miles of transmission lines. United G,is is one
of the lenders in this field. This is one of many functions of
the United Otis organization... all of which have the
ultimate purpose of assuring a more dependable supply of
natural gas to our customers.
