When 4-h boys and girls Ret
together to form their own plan-
ning committee and make plans
for all county-wide 1-h events,
there is i*oing to be a lot of
activity and interest created in
4-h club work.
Boys and girls of Bastrop coun-
ty met with their club agents,
C. A, Stone and Lena Sturges
Saturday, February 2H, for the
j organization of a Bastrop County
4-H Planning Committee. When
the meeting was over, officers
had been elected, committees for
special events in the near future
appointed plans outlined for the
entire year. The group decider! to
meet every third Saturday morn-
ing at the court house annex.
Leoi-a Callahan, was elected
chairman of the Planning Commit-
tee. Ix-orn has been active in 4-H
club work for (i years and ha*
served as officer in heV club for
4 years. At present she is the coun-
cil delegate from the Bastrop Sr.
club. I/Cora was county winner
in the Farm Safety Contest and at
present is working on a landscape
and food preparation demonstra-
tion.
I«ast year Stanley Smith was
elected vice-chairman. Stanley is
president of the Bastrop Sr. 4-H
club and is quite active as a leader
in county and club activities. Stan-
ley was county winner in tire
Frozen Foods contest las; year.
Stanley exhibited a prise-winning
shorthorn beef calf at the State
Fair in Dallas last year, is feeding
a be«*f calf for this year*' show
and was winner of a registered
dairy heifer at the Dairy milking
Race in Houston.
l/ireiw Probst was elected secre-
tary treasurer Lorene is president
of the Hastrop Sr. 4 H club and
county chairman of the 4-H girl*'
council. A winner of a gold medal
for achievement for ft of the 7
years she has iiecri a club member,
I^orene has- shown excellent quali-
ties of leader ship. She was a stat<e
winner in canning achievement in
liMT Her chief demonstration this
year is Frown food*.
I *a verne Goortx, Rock no, has
served as president of her 4-H
club and is secretary-treasurer at
! the present time. Ijiwrne was
winner in the county dress revue
last year and one of the three
delegate* from the district to the
State 4-H conservation camp,

parliamentarian. Having served as
J president of hi> club the (Mist

Fair in Klgin in January, Joe Lee
showed a ! eef calf, Hereford bull,
dairy heifer and chickens. His
hereford bull placet! fith at the
Houston Kat Stock Show in Hous-
ton in February. He will feed
another beef calf for the show
this year, and is raising sheep in
additton to his other livestock d<
ministrations.
The first job of the county-wide
planning committee was to plan
fm activities during Nat'l 4-H
( luh week March 5-1,'!. The chair-
man appointed committees to ar-
range exhibits to lie placed in
Elgin, Smithvilte and Hastrop dur-
ing the week of March 5-13: Stan-
ley Mnith, Lorene Probst, Bas-
trop; Dorothy Kastner, Elgin and
Tommy Wilhelm, Smithvilte.
A county-wide supper and en-
tertainment was planned for the
ni fht of March 12 at the court
house annex in Bastrop. Appoint-
ed to a committee to make plans
f«>r this were : Ivy Ann Kastner,
Mr Dade; Laverne Goertz and Von-
dell Probst, Rockne and Joe Lee
Rathman, Red Rock.
It was decided that the 4-H
clubs would a.-sist with a barbecue
on April 13 at Smithville, to be
held in connection with a field
day planned by county agent C. A.
Stone The following committee
wa appointed to make plans. Lu-
cille Wilhelm, Rockne; George Mii-
ler, Bastrop; Fred Fiebrich, Jr.,
!ta trop, and Mildred Ann Goertz,
Rockne.
Other plans discussed and which
will be acted on later were plans
for a county camp or trip; district
4 II camp; the annual 4-H Round-
up at A & M College and any
other special a-tivities.
This organization will help make
plans for all the 4-H clubs in the
county and in their efforts hope
to create more and stronger in-
terest in 4-H club work.
