New Chevrolet To
Be Unveiled
Saturday, January 7
DETROIT, Dec. 27—A new ser-
ies of Chevrolet passenger cars,
reportedly one of the most im-
portant ever developed by the
company, will be unveiled, Satur-
day, January 7.
W. E. Fish, general sales man-
ager, made the announcement to-
day as some 7,000 Chevrolet deal-
ers across the country began pre-
parations for elaborate showroom
presentations.
"Or.e of the secrets of Chevro-
let's highly successful merchan-
dising has been the enthusiasm
which dealers have been able to
build up at these first showings
of a new model," said Fish.
"In some communities the event
has become almost a public holi-
day. Dealer establishment# are at
their sparkling best. Great pains
are taken for striking decorative
effects. Car models are selected
with unusual eye appeal. Special
attractions are frequently part
of the program.
"With it all the public has come
to ex| ect something unique in
automotive progress!. This year
will be no exception. We are in-
troducing an advance that has
been a subject of research and
test throughout the postwar per-
iod. The cars carry a development
that we believe will have a re
volutionary influence on automo-
biles of the future."
The 1950 car will make its ap
pearance following Chevrolet's
most successful year. Fish .-■aid
retail passenger car sales in 1(.)49
would top 1,000,000 units while
, truck sales of 350,000 would set
a new all-time record for the in-
dustry.
J. B. Conant Accepts
Chairmanship Of
S&U Committee
President James Bryant Con
ant of Harv-aru University has ac-
cepted the Honorary' Chairman-
ship of the Schools and Univer-
sities Committee of the Citizens
Committee for the Hoover Re-
port, Dr. Robert L. Johnson, Pres-
ident of Temple University and
National Chairman of the Com-
mittee, announced today.
Dr. Conant, in accepting the
appointment, said "I am glad to
accept appointment as Honorary
Chairman of the Schools and
Universities Committee of the Cit-
izens Committee for the Hoover
Report. I believe it is important
that the American people under-
hand the nature of the signifi-
cant recommendations made by
the Committee for tre Reorgani-
zation of the Executive Branch of
the Government. The points of
this report should be fully dis-
cussed in our schools and colleges.
I feel that this is a matter of
significance to the young people
of the country not only because
of the specific recommendations
of the report but because a con-
cern for such matters is vital
to good citizenship."
Hailing President Conant's ac-
ceptance as a "major contribution
to the cause of good citizenship
among our young Americans," Dr.
Johnson said that it "undoubtedly
will be a great insurance of the
success of this important group."
Professor Leonard D. White of
the University of Chicago's De-
partment of Public Administration,
is chairman of the group which
organized to obtain the active par-
ticipation of educators and stu-
dents throughout the country.
Dr. Johnson and oiher mem-
bers of the Commission's research
task forces estimate that if the
Hoover Commission's recommend-
ations are fully adopted and vig-
orously applied, from $3 to $5
billions a year can eventually be
saved in federal operating costs.
The Committee points out that al-
ready about 20 percent of the pro-
posed reforms have been effectu-
ated at an estimated annual sav-
ing of $1.25 billions.
Former President Herbert Hoov-
er paid tribute to the earnest
purpose of the Committee and its
"astonishing growth under the ad-
mirable leadership of Dr. Johnson"
in a major address delivered at
the National Reorganization Con-
ference held under its auspices
in Washington last week. The par-
ley was attended by more than
