DALLAS. Texas veterans will
be a.-ked to "salt away" part of
their national service life insur-
ance dividends in lT. S. Savings
Bonds. Nathan Adams of Dallas,
Mate 'Saving-- Bonds chairman,
announced today.
.Mr. Adams -aid that principal
veteran organizations of the state
will participate in the campaign,
beginning Monday (Jan. Hi), to
urge ex-service men and women
to use their dividend money as
nest-eggs for the future. This is
the date on which the Veterans
Administration ha announced
that it will begin mailing divi-
dend checks A total of $2.K billion
will be distributed in the next six
months, with about $150,000,000
t'oinw to the 700,0* x) veterans in
Texas.
State commanders of service or-
ganization' t hat are taking part
in the drive are Joe Spurlock of
Fort Worth, American Legion; J.
H. lVarneburg of Camp Hood,
American Veteran of World War
II; F. I>. Whitley of Dallas, Dis-
w led American Veterans; ano
Julian Dickenson of Austin, Ve!-
eran.« of Formgn Wars,
In the letter- to 1500 post-
thi 'ughuut Texa.-. they have ask-
ed local commanders t > initiat>
activities within their own com-
munities and to distribute Sav-
ing Bonds literature to alt veter-
ans. as well as members.
Mr. Adams said that similai
campaigns are being held in all
of the states, with cooperation
from national commanders of vet-
erans organizations He said that
dividend checks will bear the cam-
paign's slogan "Use It Wisely—
Buy U. S. Savings Bonds" on th?
endorsement side
"It is not the purpose of this
campaign to tell the veteran how
to use his dividend money," Mr.
Adams said. "It is our purpose,
however, to remind him that his
NSLI dividend gives him an op-
portunity to begin, or add to, u
sound savings plan to provide fu-
ture financial security for himself

It was a busy week for Mr. and Mrs.
John Bowman of Independence,
M issouri—the week that young
Linda Marie joined them.
Busy week, too, for the Bowman
telephone. As Mrs. Bowman reports,
"We use the telephone a lot from
day to day, but we never stopped
to think how helpful it really is,
until we kept a record of calls. We
averaged our bill—and were really
surprised at the low cost—about 2<*

Telephone service has grown
steadily in the part it plays in our
daily lives—and in the value it
delivers. Most folks agre e it's the
