have all of the clear-cut real news of
reality. May Ik- it wa> just a fig.

BASTROP ADVERTISER MARCH 2.3, 1950
NUMBER 4
Anyway, we had a vision, and
we saw as plain as the nose on
Leon pollens' face the old Color-
ado Rivsr meandering along.
The grass grew green along the
•iopi.ig bank.-, landscaped by na-
ture with willows and pecan and
elm trees. And among the trees
we saw small cottages, neat and
attractive, the kind that made ua
want to <tep into our vision and
rent one ouiselves for the week-
end! The cars parked beside them
wore out-of-county license plates.
Youngsters played on the grassy
slope* and paddled in the shal-
low water's edge.%Kurther up the
river from the opposite bank, a
fisherman lure flew out from
his rod and his line made an arc
that suddenly pulled taut as a
bass struck the bait, and the fish-
erman played him and reeled him
in.
With a udden roar, a motor
boat peel down the river, leav-
ing a ilver -pray in its wake.
The strip of riverbank along
the water that had once been a
pasture, made safe from the
creeping finger- of flood
water- by the gigantic dams that
have blessed us not only with
f ood control but with cheap power
a- well, had been transformed in-
to a playground for eential Texas!
So what if it was a dream?
Everybody ha- to dream before
he can tart to work! After all,
we can remember when the Bas-
trop State Park was only a
dream that icmed an impossibil-

BASTROP HAS ITS OWN azalea trail each spring when the bed of
plants belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Elzner, Sr., come in full
bloom. The plants, of which there are five in the bed, came from
Houston nine years ago, pot-plant size, and in that time have grown
to approximately nine feet in height and have a 72-foot circum-
ference. Each plant is a different shade, so that the mass of
flowers are deep rose, pink, salmon pink, lavendar and white with
«. salmon pink stripe. Many visitors come from all over the state
to see the bed each year.
Dates for Bastrop's third Annual
Homecoming Jubilee have been set
for June according to
plans made at a meeting of the
general committee held at the
city hall Wednesday afternoon.
Oren Eskew, general chairman,
presided, and the tentative pro-
gram includes a four night rodeo
show, three big parades, boat
races, a union sunrise church ser-
vice, golf tournament, dances, and
a basket lunch get-together along
the river bank at the boat docks.
The possibility of a bathing
beauty contest and water show
is under consideration.
With plans for all of this and
perhaps more in the making, per-
manent committees will be ap-
pointed in the very near future
and activity will get under way.
Extending over a period of four
days instead of three, and with
a few extra flourishes added, ex-
Bastropians may look forward to
plenty of fun and entertainment,
and plenty of opportunity for
visiting old friends and familiar
places during Homecoming.
